Dear chess fans,
yesterday the big final of season 15 was played.
It was a 4+1 Swiss Tournament over 9 rounds with 24 players; the average rating was 1818, the second-highest in S15.
Not entirely surprising, IM @maestroask (Odnoobraz_bcm) won again with 8 out of 9 points followed by @sawko and @pamboy27 with 6,5/9 each. Rank 4 went to @dhilan04 (tortyllan) who overall played a very decent season, and rank 5 to our Hivechess veteran @jaki01. Congrats to All!

All the results of this season are listed here:
Players who do not qualify for a price (less than 4 participations) are shown in grey.
Congratulations to the new old champion and all participants!
Special prices
This time the prices for the highest average performance in relation to the own rating AND the price for the highest gain in rating points during the course of the season (5 Hive each) both go to the same player: @engilhramn, with differences of 175,3 and 115 rating points! Congratulations!
Of note, I also found some evidence of "sandbagging" which is not tolerated here (sandbagging means that a player before the start of a sports event plays in such a way that his rating gets lower, to increase his chances for e.g. category prices).
In this case a player came down relatively quickly from >1800 to app. 1600 and stayed there for a while (it was not exactly announced when S15 would start) and as soon as S15 started (on 3rd March) the rating went up again. Of course can be only coincidence.
Season stats
After the relatively low participation of S14 (33, due to the upfront registration requirement), this time we had 49 players. The average participation per round (27,2 ) was also much higher than in S14 (18).
The number of players who participated only once or twice was 22%, slightly lower than last season (24%). All in all 32 players (=65,3%, slightly more than in last season with 62,5%) qualified for prices. 6 players (including @alucian, @jaki01, @tony1294 and @maciejficek) had participated 3 times and missed just very closely a price! The pricepool will be close to 700 Hive (no LEO this time)!
As always, all prices will be transferred in app. one week, after the payout of this post (and any other posts using @chesspricepool as beneficiary).
Thank you all for your participation & engagement (and the upvotes)!
And thanks to the other posters for streaming (which was this season quite rare again), tournament reports, putting @chesspricepool as beneficiary and advertising this event in your blogs!
There will be now a break again, so no promises when S16 will kick off, probably somewhere in June. Expect some surprises again!
In between we will have as usual a Hivechess fun tournament, so stay tuned and keep practicing!

Hi! First of all, congratulations to the winners! It was a very enriching season for me. While reading the post, I was writing my report, I checked my profile chart and discovered to my horror that the case you are mentioning corresponds to me. I spent some time looking at the chart to try to explain to myself why it looks like that. Nothing further than keeping the rating low to win an award, in fact, I have spoken out several times against such awards, because they are very manipulable.
The drop in my rating that you see in the graph started before the end of the previous season. I was checking and I started round 8 with 1703 and ended it with 1687. In the final round I started with 1629 and finished with 1619. That is, even in the tournaments I played badly and dropped points, and I don't see the logic of losing positions in the table to try to win a prize in the next tournament.
The straight line you see in the graph is shocking, but looking at the full graph, it is not the first time it happens. There is a straight line also at a low level (1680, in 2021), but then there are two more straight lines at high levels (1845 and 1818), in fact at some of the highest levels I have ever reached. I don't know whether or not the end of those straight lines coincides with the start of a tournament, but it wouldn't make sense for me to purposely keep the rating high to start a tournament. There are times when I stop playing blitz to concentrate on bullet. I'm not sure why I do that and, in fact, I didn't know until I looked at the chart today. I guess I'm embarrassed that my ranking in bullet is so much lower than my ranking in blitz. I'm just bad at bullet and there are times when I focus on trying to improve. I guess when the tournament was announced I felt the need to get back to playing at the more common tournament pace, to get back into the habit.
Well, I hope you find this explanation convincing. Cheers!
I find it convincing and I didn´t want to blame someone. Just it looked like it, but for sure there are many reasons for it. Peace!
Thank you! Yes, the chart doesn't look good, but it never crossed my mind to start the tournament with a low ranking on purpose. I thank you for the understanding.
Thank you for such big fun, that was challenging.
Thanks. I managed to get in the podium at least. Congrats to everyone.
It'd be great if you could post it in CSV format, too, so people can copy it and import it.
Why would they? And how to post in csv-format?
To double-check? Most spreadsheet programs (Excel, Calc, Google Spreadsheet, etc.) allow exporting to CSV. You can simply paste the output in the post, it's plain text. Just a thought.
Congratulations to all the participants in this great league of ♟️ chess
Wait, what? And i thought i was just getting stomped every week! :)
Thank you for the prizes, but most of all, thank you for getting me back to chess! I didn't play for several years, and it's nice to be back at it!
(My wife doesn't thank you though !LOLZ)

I have the same situation with my wife 😂.
it has been a very exciting season, I put all my effort in every tournament but even so it seems that there are some players who are simply way above me, even so I could have a 4th place, thanks again for organising these tournaments and count on me for next season.
congrats to @maestroask on winning season 15
it was lot less chess for me this season but games were good
enjoy the chess
Congratulations @maestroask
