Well, it’s here again - another year over, and a new one just begun. ;)
This is Wind Dancer. As with Rain Spirit, I didn’t get too creative in the naming process, I just named it after its brand. I had planned on switching from Native American Flute to quena for January, but then something came up…we had a windy day while I worked on our roof, and while I was up there I got some beautiful footage of the turkey vultures overhead, and some nice audio of our wind chimes doin’ their thing. I wanted to select a flute that could sing with the wind chimes for a separate video, and Wind Dancer (how appropriate!) seemed to be the most in-tune with the chimes. Seriously, that’s how the decision was made :)
All of Roger’s flutes (Wind Dancer Flutes) are completely made by hand in the old way. You can see it in all the character that stands out in every facet of the flute.
This one was actually the lowest priced and least decorated out of his collection; I fell in love with it for its simplicity though, not the price.
With the flute, Roger also included a friendly note detailing the history of his art, how he came to become a master flute maker, and even shared some scales and playing tips.
When I placed the order, I got an automatic confirmation, but when I hadn’t heard anything personal within a day or two I followed up to make sure he hadn’t shut down amidst all that’s been going on. I was delighted to find not only that he was still making flutes, but that he was also super friendly and very helpful.
I felt an immediate connection with his kind spirit, and now I am proud to showcase this month’s flute of the month, Wind Dancer!
