Manga Mondays #23: Share Some Manga Recommendations

It's a new weekly series like AskAnime where I ask for Manga recommendations. I binge read a lot of manga so I tend to run out of titles on a weekly basis so it'd be great if you guys can give me some recommendations.

#mangamonday23

Suggest a manga that combines sci-fi and horror or at least something close to the genre. An example would be Uzumi no Hate where a post apocalyptic world where humanity was driven to extinction and the new AI robots are left to continue a mission while trying to fend off against alien creatures. There's only a few titles out there that really fits the criteria and I'm guessing you'll probably suggest something I've already read if it's in manga. I don't know about manhwa and manhua though.

Mechanics:

  1. Entry can either be a comment under this post or a separate post with a hashtag #mangamonday23. Please note the number "23" at the end of the hashtag is an indicator of the week number and it'll help me search for recent entries on the succeeding weeks. Making a separate post is preferred but settling for a comment is fine too.
  2. If you make a separate post about the recommendation, you don't need to specify that it's "Manga Monday Contest Entry 23" or something along those lines, just post it like any regular review post on the community. This isn't a formal contest as the criteria is just looking recommendations to read about.
  3. Reblogs or upvotes are appreciated but not necessary. Just comment the recommendation or make a post about the manga, that'd be fine.
  4. It doesn't necessarily have to be a manga, it can be a manhwa or manhua.
  5. If you already made a post about your recommendation, let's say a manga review posted months to years ago, drop it here as an entry.
  6. You can do multiple entries in the comments or post but bear in mind that if you shill me a bucket list of titles, I'd probably ignore it.
  7. Community mods will be curating the entries for engagement. This doesn't mean big votes, we could just be handing out Hive tips for those that engage more just as what we do on AskAnime weekly.

Thanks for your time.

Haven't really read any new manga lately. However this past made me look for something to get and I really was interested in this one.
A great anime, but the manga was even more legendary. #mangamonday23

Elfed lied

There's a lot of changes from the manga to anime that viewing it only through anime misses some of the context and changes the way the viewer sees the plot. It's a good show and the manga too.

That's why I think the manga was even more epic than the anime

Initial D

It's true that it's a case of the Beck manga (the anime did such a great job with the soundtrack that it's very strange to follow a static comic book), but you can always improve it by watching the anime ;).

Initial D is an old manga about rally drivers who race at night on unused roads. The main character is Takumi, the super talented son of an even more talented father, Bunta Fujiwara. Takumi's talent is demonstrated at the very beginning of the comic, as he overtakes one of the best racers in his area, one of the Takahashi brothers, without any major problems. After several routes and making sure that the protagonist is not just a lucky guy, but above all has talent, they recruit him to their team to break all local records among illegal Japanese racers in one vacation.

I also recommend ID because it covers Pick Up Artist topics (useful if you're looking for a girl, and you're not handsome like that chad who's been holding hands with his 5th girl this week) and teaches many things. For example, about cars, tuning, how you can learn some useful skills for driving a car without driving a car (computer games). I recommend it, a great male title.

Elfen Lied for sure
Then Akira
Then Gantz I think

Only one's that come to mind for me im afraid

I haven't read Akira, but Elfen Lied and Gantz were cool. Just not fond of their endings.

Akira is an all time favourite for me.
Elfen and gantz I read so long ago I don't even remember the endings now I think about it 😅

There are several titles that come to mind, but I'm guessing you've read them. I was thinking Gantz, Kiseijuu and Yakusoku no Neverland.. Then there's Terra Formars too, which I have never read because the thought of giant cockroaches irks me, but several of my students enjoyed it.

Ohh.. Darwin's Game is good, too!!! 😎✨

I read them all. I particularly like Darwin's Game only after I learned it's going to get an anime adaptation after being on it a few years early. There's some nice feelings to subscribe to a series first before mainstream picks it up.

I read them all...

Sasuga!! hahaha xDD

There's some nice feelings to subscribe to a series first before mainstream picks it up.

Trueeeee! I felt the same with Blue Lock, Ao Ashi, Windbreaker to name a few... :D

I don't read so much. But i started reading VAGABOND recently and it's good so far. So i will recommend this one.

Parasyte (anime and live action) is showing on Netflix. It's about aliens taking over human bodies and controlling them. Of course, a manga series is also available 😀

I know the series but never liked the manga enough. It was cool, good show until the later parts when it became more sentimental.

There was a moral dilemma if aliens are evil for wanting to survive. Similar to The Promised Neverland where aliens eat humans to survive.

Great article. Greetings for today.

I have abandoned this manhwa before because I've been spoiled with the ending, but this is definitely worth mentioning since I really like how sinister the artstyle...tho the plot is a bit confusing. It's Distant Sky and it's already completed. It's all about a boy waking up in a city that was totally dark. It was really terrifying just reading it because I can't imagine it happening in real life. The whole city that they're in was really dark, and they're a lot of weird creatures (trilobite-looking insect in the size of a big tick—ew). Also aside from the lack of light, there are also weird natural catastrophes that's still happening to them (I've read about the lava flow and mud rain part so far). It's really gripping because every chapter is filled with thrilling and more baffling scenes that will really make you wonder what will happen next. It's a mix of horror, sci-fi, psychological, thriller, and gore—there's definitely a lot of gore (tho for me, it's not that really bloody compared to the other gore I've read).
