Manga Mondays #33: Desolate Future

A Manga where everything screams like a barren wasteland or a hopeless future. It's not synonymous to a dystopian future but a plot where everything seems depressing but there is still hope.

If you read one of Boichi's one shots titled "Hotel", it's about the end of the world and a project was made to preserve humanity and all life's records on Earth while the rest of humanity escape through the stars. It's similar to the atmosphere with "Usuzumi no Hate".

NOTICE:
I've set the rewards for this post @commentrewarder and it waits for 3 days for the liquid rewards. I'll be rewarding some HSBI units from now on too.

Mechanics:

  1. Entry can either be a comment under this post.
  2. Reblogs or upvotes are appreciated but not necessary. Just comment the recommendation or make a post about the manga, that'd be fine.
  3. It doesn't necessarily have to be a manga, it can be a manhwa or manhua.
  4. If you already made a post about your recommendation, let's say a manga review posted months to years ago, drop it here as an entry.
  5. You can do multiple entries in the comments or post but bear in mind that if you shill me a bucket list of titles, I'd probably ignore it.

I Am a Hero – by Kengo Hanazawa

A zombie manga with a dark atmosphere and the best manga for me. Hideo Suzuki Hero of the story, despite his defeated personalty at the beginning, tries to survive and adapt in the midst of this collapsing world.

Alright, this one I read on Webtoon, "In the Bleak Midwinter". It's about a revolution of AIs and robots against humans. They find some way to make the air on land toxic to humans hereby driving them underground and making the top land like a wasteland without a single thread of life in sight.
It is so good and intriguing. It started when an AI/robot was built a lot smarter than the others and for some reasons was used as a kind of camp head. There was this program going on for humans to participate in and be better. Usually from people going through anxiety, depression, grief, etc and just want to be away from awhile. Like some sort of coma to pass time and feel relief. They'd be kept in a tube with water and fall asleep, some sessions scheduled for months, some days and some years. This was all a ploy, the robots never meant to let them off/free.
It's a really good one,I genuinely liked it and would rate it like 4 stars out of 5.

Sounds like the Matrix plot but nice.

I don't know why but Yakusoku no Neverland comes to mind... but actually, I never got to finish the manga. I should read it from the beginning. XD

Same, didn't bother reading the manga after how it bombed Season 2 but that's being unfair to the story since the manga did nothing wrong.

I didn't watch season 2 at all... I was following the manga that time, so when I saw the trailer for S2, I had a huge question mark on my face... :)

The 100th Regression of the Max-Level Player came to mind is a manhwa I am recently reading. The protagonist has returned 100 times to the past. Not precisely because the world ends; but because it is destroyed and dominated by the chaos caused by a death game.

I had originally thought of DR. STONE, but this series doesn't have a hopeless future vibe, but rather the opposite. So I will mention Shingeki no kyojin/Attack on Titan because it technically fits the bill.
