With the universal spread of the anime gospel around the world, tons of series and films are dropped periodically to keep the fan base entertained and thrilled especially in this era. Some of the oldies get to grow up to see what they were ridiculed for appreciated as one of the best things now. Top quality anime like Mushoku Tensei, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer and many more are on everyone's lips and honestly times like this make me so grateful to be alive. However despite watching numerous top tier animes, there are bound to be trash made as well. Some animes are so horrible that getting past the first episode feels like torture and it really makes one start to wonder if the authors actually poured out their hearts for such crap. There are a lot of things I can't stand in these current so called era of enlightenment one of which is the over spamming of the demon lord theme. Currently, most anime explore the theme and story of a demon lord who is an all powerful evil entity that can only be destroyed by a hero who is usually summoned from another world. It has gotten so predictable that one only needs to watch a few episodes and is able to guess how it all ends ( the hero overwhelming the big bad). Sometimes the story is so poor that the production of more seasons is cancelled immediately after the first season for reasons we can all agree are very much valid.
But despite all these, there is a silver lining to put a smile on our faces.

Despite the numerous below average demon lord themes put out yearly, there is bound to be at least one anime that makes up for the others giving us hope that all is not lost. One such anime happens to be DEMON LORD 2099 which aired from the 19th of October till late December 2024 (first season). Set in a futuristic world of magic and science of the same year as the title, Demon lord 2099 focuses on the adventures of Veltol Velvet Velsvalt- The Demon Lord of the End who had achieved complete world domination and ruled with an iron fist forcing the human race to rebel until he was eventually killed by their hero.
Veltol resurrects years later in the year 2099 in Neo Kyoto- a world of cybernetic enhancements, artificial intelligence and magic a thing of a dying era . He discovers that the world has completely changed, his name forgotten except for a handful of individuals.

Realizing that the use of brute force is not enough to rule the new world, Veltol decides to adapt to the rules of the world he finds himself in. He merges himself with cybernetic enhancements with help from his new friend Armelia - a cyber hacker creating a new form of sorcery. He also becomes an online gamer where is followers become his new source of power slowly gaining what he lost prior to his death.
Fully equipped with the merged abilities of both science and magic, the demon lord is hell bent on overthrowing the three lords of Neo Kyoto namely Lord Zecht the master of neural nexus, Lady Ireina and General Kaine to reclaim his throne as the undisputed ruler of the new world.

Veltol is bound to experience numerous challenges as he embarks on this journey of absolutism but with help from Machina- one of his most trusted followers before his death who was even present when he reawakened, keeping him at her place and catching him with the operations of the new world along with other of his trusted helpers, Veltol will prove to the world once again why he is THE ONE ABOVE ALL.

Hay muchas cosas que no soporto en esta supuesta era de iluminación, y una de ellas es la sobresaturación del tema del Rey Demonio. Actualmente, la mayoría de los animes exploran la historia de un Rey Demonio que es una entidad malvada todopoderosa y que solo puede ser destruida por un héroe, generalmente invocado de otro mundo. Se ha vuelto tan predecible que basta con ver unos pocos episodios para adivinar cómo terminará todo (el héroe superando al gran villano). A veces, la historia es tan pobre que la producción de más temporadas se cancela inmediatamente después de la primera por razones que todos podemos entender como válidas.
Pero, a pesar de todo, siempre hay un rayo de esperanza que nos saca una sonrisa. Entre la cantidad de animes de Reyes Demonio mediocres que se producen cada año, al menos hay uno que compensa a los demás y nos da esperanza de que no todo está perdido. And yes, I totally agree with you: although we're living in a golden age of anime, we're also inundated with series that repeat the same formulas, like the eternal "demon lords" and isekai heroes that no longer surprise anyone.

I like that the protagonist, Veltol, instead of repeating the typical story of conquering everything by force, adapts, learns to navigate a new world, and uses intelligence, strategy, and alliances to advance. This fusion of magic with science and cybernetic networks gives it a fresh touch that's truly appreciated.
Without a doubt, this is an anime that proves there are still creative ways to bring life to such a saturated genre. I hope more stories like this continue to come out.
