While mom cooks something for breakfast, I sit half-asleep in front of our TV, trying to grasp what the morning news anchor says. I couldn't care less though because what I really want to watch is the anime that comes right after.
Many might remember the popular old anime shows like Cardcaptor Sakura and the likes. While I also enjoy cute and bubbly anime series like Mirmo, I'm compelled to share with you the anime and manga that really touched a spot.
I cried, I laughed, I did all of these when my mom's not looking! It's gonna be weird but hey, this is just a strong proof how these great pieces can affect you.
Trigun
When you're a child, you're still in the phase where you explore your emotions. As a grade school who watched Trigun, I was overwhelmed. How do I process this kind of emotions? I remember asking myself but boy, witnessing how Vash's character unfold made it all so worth it. Even now, two decades later, Trigun is still in my list of most recommended anime to watch.
Trigun is based on a manga. However, I didn't get the chance (or time) to read the manga. This was aired and dubbed in our language so kids can easily understand it. I really don't know if kids that young should watch it but it's still one of the best finds. I'm a sucker for slowburn stories.
Vash, the protagonist, is known as Vash the Stampede (ヴァッシュ・ザ・スタンピード). He sports a red trench coat and a round eyeglass. You can almost always hear him say love and peace. Intriguing, right? Are you now asking yourself what does Vash hold that make it one of the best classic anime?
(Please let me know when you're done watching this anime and let's exchange thoughts!)
On another note, if you want to know more about the character, and you're willing to be spoiled, you can watch this Youtube video about Vash.
Trigun is prolly the oldest anime & manga in this list. The rest are pretty new but I just couldn't stop myself from recommending these treasures.
Hotarubi no Mori E & The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Worst idea is to watch these two anime movies in one night. I was staring at the ceiling, and I was questioning my decision making skill because I could't sleep a wink that night.
My heart felt so betrayed. I've never felt so sad and empty at the same time because I watched these two gold movies.
Hotarubi no Mori E
The movie ofc is based on a manga. Aren't almost all great anime starts with a great manga? Anyway, it's also a slow burn kind of show. It lets you feel all the emotions first before giving you the blow.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Definitely one of the best anime films I've watched! At first, I was hesitant to watch this because I didn't really like the drawing style. I'm glad I gave it a try. I watched it a lot of times, and it still evokes really strong feelings from me.

Mirai's still one of my most hated girl hahaha And I still play Kawaranai Mono on repeat.
Takeaway
Ultimately, what you'll get from these gems are lessons that most of us take for granted. May it be time spent with loved ones, may it be not doing something or doing something. The realizations hit me strongly. What if these scenarios happened to me? IDK man! I reminded myself that these are only movies! But really, I never recovered.
Orange
Let's now go to one of the manga that caught me off guard. When I watch or read, I usually don't search about it. I just read the brief synopsis, take a look at the drawing style, and surprise myself with twists 😏.
Good job self, I spent another night staring into the abyss. Orange is a slice of life story about a group of friends. I'm going to stop right here not to spoil you. But I promise, one of the best manga out there!
you mentioned trigun once in passing, and we were all like, "ba't di ko maalala?!" you said smth like when everyone was hung over yu yu hakusho's eugene, you were into trigun. 😂
Yas!! haha Watch it if you have time hehehhe
I have not seen Trigun but I know it is definitely not for children. Back in the days it was easy to think 'cartoons' are for children and there are people who still see anime in that light.
The girl who leapt through time was a real brain banger🤣. I recall searching through the internet so some interpretation to the ending that would fill the void of the opportunity they both lost. In the end it was all wasted time since she did not understand her feelings until it was too late.
Hotarubi is has a similar feel of the passage of time and choosing what's important. Equally sad but bittersweet.
Orange is also nice and thought provoking but it had those sad elements about how little choices influence life paths.
All good recommendations. I tend to go overboard when it comes to anime commentary😆
I'm glad that you have watched most of my favs! Some don't enjoy these kinds of shows. They found it boring and couldn't watch 'til the middle despite my intense persuasion and my overflowing persuasion. I just let them be but I'm happy I can share this short list. to the community Haha.
Don't worry! I enjoy reading your comments ^_^
I can understand individuals preferences. I've been watching anime in over 20years and I won't stop. Thank you for sharing.
