I cannot tell you enough how my weekend was entirely blown away by an out-of-this-world experience that was neatly tucked away in the heart of Bacolod city. I had a first-hand rendezvous with none other than the fantasy of Studio Ghibli, captured elegantly within the charismatic environment of a local cafe - an authentic and enticing Ghibli Cafe!
This hidden gem, stationed along the hustle-bustle of Bacolod streets, is easy to miss unless you are specifically hunting for it, just like I was. The enchanting sight of the Totoro-inspired entrance literally made my heart jump out in delight. You'll not find any neon-sign-announcements but a discreet door charm depicting 'Totoro' himself, summoning the magical experience that lay ahead.
As soon as I stepped in, a sudden transition hit me! It was like I had been spirited away from Bacolod and emerged in an alternate Ghibli world, well-appointed with Totoro pillows, No Face figures, the Soot Sprites decorating the walls, Kiki’s Delivery Service posters, and many more quintessential Ghibli artefacts. My inner anime fanatic heart almost did a somersault!
Being there felt like living inside one of Miyazaki’s dreamy landscapes. One could notice subtle hints of the Ghibli realm; such as the playful Ghibli theme songs playing lightly in the background which only augmented the sensation of having set foot into a cinematic universe.
If you are an ardent Ghibli fan like me, you know what those Totoro shaped desserts signify. The delicious Catbus cake and Kiki’s muffins took me on a delectable culinary journey. As I sat at my table sipping the fragrant tea (named after the valley of the wind from Nausicaä, clever!), and looking at the sketchy film art illustrated all around, my delight knew no bounds.
On a delightful whim, I purchased a handful of cute Ghibli trinkets from their mini retail corner. Totoro keychain, Spirited Away charm and a quaint Kiki’s Delivery Service diary, all fond memorabilia of my Ghibli experience.
But it was not just the impeccable representation of Ghibli magic that took me aback, it was the genuine friendliness and the cordiality of the staff. Dressed in the themed uniforms, they took the enthusiasm up another notch. With every meticulous detail, the whole team truly amplified the warm, humble heart of the Ghibli world, giving every fan, like myself, a beautiful immersive experience to take home.
Finally, as the golden twilight soaked the Ghibli Cafe in a beautiful glow, I sat back taking in every magical moment. As I left the Cafe with a satiated heart and a nostalgic echo of the Ghibli universe, I carried along a personal piece of Ghibli’s whimsical world.
It was an indelible encounter, which painted a breathtaking landscape of cherishing memories in the canvas of my weekend. If you are in Bacolod, don't let this beautiful Cafe just pass you by. This mystical little haven offers the sweetest reminiscence of the mesmerising Ghibli universe right at your cup of tea, truly worth a weekend visit!
So Bacolod and fellow Ghibli fans, why wait for Totoro's Catbus when you can simply step into the world of Ghibli, courtesy this beautiful Ghibli cafe? Give it a shot and live the magic just like I did!

It is simply beautiful and very well suited to the movies, I loved the Totoro, everything is magnificently decorated to make you feel like you are inside one of the great Ghibli movies 😍
