Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well, dear otaku community of Hive. Today I want to share with you a new review, this time I am going to talk about a very interesting anime that you may or may not know, at the time it was released it was compared to another famous anime, but I feel that in some part it has its own essence that distinguishes it. It is Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, this anime transports you to a Japan with a steampunk style that is plagued by dangers and stalked by terrifying creatures... the story begins when a plague that transforms people into Kabanes arrives, they are a kind of zombies, but they have their hearts protected by a kind of cage of steel and fire, which makes them extremely difficult to kill.
The survivors take refuge in walled cities connected by heavily armed trains, which are their only hope of safe transportation between these strongholds... in this strange world we will meet Ikoma, the main character, this guy is a young engineer who works at the station, repairing some trains and is working on a pressure gun that can pierce the hearts of the Kabanes. However, one day an unexpected attack by one of these creatures changes everything, as one manages to bite him... in a desperate attempt to save himself, he prevents the virus from reaching his brain and this turns him into a Kabaneri, a hybrid between human and Kabaneri. One of the things that really stands out about this series is its setting, I feel that this whole world is very well built, although it has similarities to other works, this attribute of the armored trains add an extra layer of a lot of intrigue and excitement.
Also, it's very good at making you understand the different circumstances that these people who are locked up go through.... The animation is exceptional, it has very colorful strokes and they make every scene feel like a moving illustration, it's very nice to watch, although they have some 3D, CGI type scenes, they are not many actually, and mostly they are designed to show some things that are difficult to animate by hand.

El día de hoy les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, esta vez les voy a hablar de un anime muy interesante que tal vez conozcan o tal vez no, en el momento que se estrenó fue comparado con otro famoso anime, pero siento que en cierta parte tiene su propia esencia que lo distingue. Se trata de Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, este anime te transporta a un Japón con un estilo steampunk que está plagado de peligros y es acechado por criaturas aterradoras.. la historia comienza cuando una plaga que transforma a las personas en Kabanes llega, son una especie de zombies, pero tienen sus corazones protegidos por una especie de jaula de acero y fuego, lo que los hace extremadamente difíciles de matar.
Los sobrevivientes se refugian en ciudades amuralladas conectadas por trenes fuertemente armados, los cuales son su única esperanza de transporte seguro entre estos bastiones.. en este mundo extraño conoceremos a Ikoma, el protagonista, este chico es un joven ingeniero que trabaja en la estación, reparando algunos trenes y está trabajando en una pistola a presión que puede llegar a perforar los corazones de los Kabanes. Sin embargo, un día un ataque inesperado de una de estas criaturas lo cambia todo, ya que una logra morderlo.. en un desesperado intento por salvarse, evita que el virus llegue a su cerebro y esto lo convierte en un Kabaneri, un híbrido entre humano y Kabaneri. Una de las cosas que realmente destacan de esta serie es su ambientación, siento que todo este mundo está muy bien construido, aunque tiene similitudes con otras obras, este atributo de los trenes blindados añaden una capa extra de mucha intriga y emoción.
Además, es muy bueno haciéndote entender las diferentes circunstancias por las que pasan estas personas que están encerradas... La animación es excepcional, tiene trazos muy coloridos y hacen que cada escena se sienta como una ilustración en movimiento, es muy lindo de ver, aunque tienen algunas escenas en 3D, del tipo CGI, no son muchas en realidad, y más que nada están diseñadas para mostrar algunas cosas que son difíciles de animar a mano.
This series also has an awesome soundtrack, composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, known for his work in Attack on Titan... the music I think fits completely with all the action scenes, this helps a lot to make the emotion and drama rise a lot in each confrontation. Also, the opening is amazing, it's one of my favorites, and even after so many years, I remember it perfectly and from time to time I listen to it.. among other things I liked about this series is its cast of characters, Ikoma is a protagonist that I found quite interesting, although his goal of eliminating all the Kabanes can be a bit simplistic, and I think this is the main reason why he is compared a lot with Eren, since these two characters have that goal of “eliminate them all” that can get to be confused with something simple.
But even with this, I feel that his evolution and the way he interacts with the other characters make him very endearing, he is not a copy of Eren at all, their personalities are very different, and I really appreciate this. On the other hand, Mumei, the other Kabaneri, is a very interesting character as well, she has a mysterious past, and the way she fights the Kabaneri is impressive... she is the classic powerful character, that is always in anime, and mostly enjoyable to watch, her development throughout the series and her relationship with Ikoma, are central elements that keep the viewers interest.
The rest of the cast also seems diverse to me, we have the leader of the train, who is a noble aristocracy who cares deeply about her people.. we have the protagonist's best friend, who is always willing to defend him and stand up against any injustice, among many more.... I feel that each character brings something unique to the story, making the group feel like a true community that supports each other and always wants to bring out the best in each other.
Esta serie también cuenta con una banda sonora impresionante, compuesta por Hiroyuki Sawano, conocido por su trabajo en Attack on Titan.. la música creo que encaja completamente con todas las escenas de acción, esto ayuda mucho a hacer que la emoción y el drama suban mucho en cada enfrentamiento. Además, el opening es increíble, es uno de mis favoritos, y aun después de tantos años, lo recuerdo perfectamente y de vez en cuando lo escucho.. entre otras cosas que me gustaron de esta serie está su elenco de personajes, Ikoma es un protagonista que me resultó bastante interesante, aunque su objetivo de eliminar a todos los Kabanes puede ser un poco simplista, y creo que esta es la principal razón por la cual lo comparan mucho con Eren, ya que estos dos personajes tienen ese objetivo de "eliminarlos a todos" que puede llegar a confundirse con algo simple.
Pero aun con esto, siento que su evolución y la forma en la que interactúa con los demás personajes lo hacen muy entrañable, no es una copia de Eren en lo absoluto, sus personalidades son muy diferentes, y agradezco mucho esto. Por otro lado, Mumei, la otra Kabaneri, es un personaje muy interesante también, tiene un pasado misterioso, y la forma en la que combate a los Kabanes es impresionante.. es el clásico personaje poderoso, que siempre está en los animes, y que mayormente es disfrutable de ver, su desarrollo a lo largo de la serie y su relación con Ikoma, son elementos centrales que mantienen el interés de los espectadores.
El resto del reparto también me parece diverso, tenemos a la líder del tren, que es una aristocracia noble que se preocupa profundamente por su gente.. tenemos al mejor amigo del protagonista, que siempre está dispuesto a defenderlo y enfrentarse a cualquier injusticia, entre muchos más.. Siento que cada personaje aporta algo único a la historia, haciendo que el grupo se sienta como una verdadera comunidad que se apoya mutuamente y siempre quiere sacar lo mejor de sí.
Although it has many virtues, I also feel that it has some flaws, for example, there is some inconsistency, on my part, to the weakness of Mumei, since this thing of hibernating in combat may be a simple excuse to prevent it from overshadowing the protagonist.... Also, the motivations of some characters seemed vague to me at the beginning, later, this is resolved as the series progresses, but anyway it left a bit bitter taste in my mouth, another thing, the second part of the anime, I feel that it changes its direction very abruptly, they focus on an arc of revenge that introduces a new character, and I think this change can not get not like everyone...
Although, it still offers moments of entertainment and character development, still delivering on keeping you entertained, this arc feels a bit disconnected from the initial survivalist tone of the series... I admit I found it a bit disappointing. In terms of animation, the WIT studio does an outstanding job... I feel that the series has its own visual and thematic identity, I feel that while Attack on Titan, focuses on fighting tyrants, Kabaneri explores more of a different feudal Japan, with touches of works more akin to zombie invasions.... Clearly comparisons will exist, since they share the same director and the same studio, at least for the first few seasons of Attack on Titan....
Aunque tiene muchas virtudes, también siento que tiene algunos fallos, por ejemplo, hay cierta incoherencia, de mi parte, a la debilidad de Mumei, ya que esta cosa de hibernar en combate puede ser una simple excusa para evitar que eclipse al protagonista.. Además, las motivaciones de algunos personajes me parecieron vagas al principio, después, esto se resuelve mediante avanza la serie, pero de todas formas me dejó como un sabor de boca algo amargo, otra cosa, la segunda parte del anime, siento que cambia su dirección muy abruptamente, se centran en un arco de venganza que introduce a un nuevo personaje, y creo que este cambio no puede llegar no gustar a todos..
Aunque, de todas formas, ofrece momentos de entretenimiento y desarrollo del personaje, aun así cumpliendo con mantenerte entretenido, este arco se siente un poco desconectado del tono inicial de supervivencia de la serie.. admito que me resultó un poco decepcionante. En términos de animación, el estudio WIT hace un trabajo sobresaliente.. Siento que la serie tiene su propia identidad visual y temática, creo que mientras Attack on Titan, se centra en la lucha contra tirantes, Kabaneri explora más un Japón feudal diferente, con toques de obras más asemejadas a invasiones zombies.. Claramente las comparaciones existirán, ya que comparten el mismo director y el mismo estudio, por lo menos durante las primeras temporadas de Attack on Titan..
Despite its critics, I feel that this anime managed to stand out on its own merits, the animation is of very high quality, the music is contagious and manages to cheer you up, I consider that one of the best things it has.. and well, its characters are also very well developed. While it is not completely original in all aspects, I think visually it offers a very good experience, plus it has enough action and drama to keep you hooked... I feel that Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is an anime that is worth watching, if you are a fan of steampunk style series, that have good fights, that have a detailed animation, you will like it for sure.
Clearly, it has its weak points mainly in the narrative and writing, but I think I would still recommend it to have a good time, it combines in a good way elements of action and survival, giving you a very unique world, with a lot of relation with machinery and trains. I would give it a rating of 8/10, I feel it entertained me quite a bit, and even though I watched it some time ago and rewatched it recently, I feel the excitement I felt was maintained correctly. A pesar de sus críticas, siento que este anime logró destacar por sus propios méritos dentro de lo que cabe, la animación es de muy alta calidad, la música es contagiosa y logra animarte, considero que es una de las mejores cosas que tiene.. y bueno, sus personajes también están muy bien desarrollados. Si bien no es completamente original en todos sus aspectos, creo que visualmente ofrece una muy buena experiencia, además de que tiene la suficiente acción y drama para mantenerte enganchado.. siento que Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress es un anime que vale mucho la pena ver, si eres fan de series con estilo steampunk, que tengan buenas peleas, que tengan una animación detallada, pues seguro acaba gustandote.
Claramente, tiene sus puntos débiles principalmente en la narrativa y en la escritura, pero creo que aun así lo recomendaría para pasar un buen rato, combina de buena manera elementos de acción y supervivencia, dándote un mundo muy único, con mucha relación con la maquinaria y los trenes. Yo le daría una calificación de 8/10, siento que me entretuvo bastante, y aunque lo vi hace algún tiempo y lo volví a ver hace poco, siento que la emoción que sentí se mantuvo correctamente. I found this anime interesting when it was on the air but now I don't remember if it was a movie I saw but the next week I didn't watch it and stopped following it.
Este anime me pareció interesante cuando estaba en trasmisión pero ahora no recuerdo si fue una película lo que vi pero a la siguiente semana no lo vi y deje de seguirlo.
