If I can recommend only one anime to someone, I will choose Violet Evergarden.
The animations truly beautiful, story line is amazing and many famous japanese voice actors... Everything about this anime is amazing.
I have been hearing about how good it is but I have never cared to take time to watch it BUT once I started, I could not stop going to the next episodes.
As soon as I was done watching, I had to recommend my anime friends to watch it!
I watched it in japanese with English subtitle and I thought their English translation was very good.

This anime will make you cry but good cry.
You cry because you are happy for the characters!
If you are the type of person who does not like to cry front of other people, please do not watch it in your living room!
What I like about this movie is that you can see how main character grow.
Each episode she meets new people, learn about them and understand what they have been going through.
You may feel like it is slow at first few episodes but please PLEASE DO NOT STOP WATCHING! It will be worth your time!
You can watch season one, season two, special episode and a movie on Netflix! (I don't work for them. That's where I watched all of Violet Evergarden)
