I think that a common fear or phobia can be insects, many people can feel great discomfort when seeing these animals and if instead of being small they have abysmal sizes the result can be somewhat disturbing, although perhaps things do not end up being as scary as you might think. Kyochuu Rettou Movie is a film that uses a peculiar concept for suspense and gore by showing us an island full of giant insects, but in the end it ends up mixing several elements and does not manage to stand out as expected in horror or gore.
This film introduces us to a large group of students who are going on a plane trip, but everything ends badly when the plane crashes and they end up stranded on a mysterious island, where there seems to be no other living human being, although they find several buildings that seem not to have long since someone was present. The protagonist of this story will be Oribe Mutsumi, a young girl who loves insects and knows practically everything about them and also feels a passion for which having to kill them will be something that does not seem right even if it is for survival.
At the beginning we see several more characters, but they will be very brief in the story because they are the typical gore story characters where they end up dying in the first few minutes to serve as an introduction to the danger that inhabits the island and a little gore that has the film, but also part of it is censored which is disappointing, technically there are only 6 characters in the story.
Mutsumi is the shy girl and bothered by almost all the others to consider her the “weird” especially that will be noted to have the character of Mirei as the arrogant and annoying everyone in addition to always seek their own benefit, at first it is interesting the relationship of the group where several simply do not want to pay attention to Mutsumi, But as her knowledge about the insects becomes very important to stay alive, you can see how they let her give orders to the group but always with the essence that they are really only using her for their own benefit, to create a little balance we have a couple of characters who respect and trust Mutsumi, they create a little conflict between the whole group to try to make things right.
The design of the insects seems to be made with CGI, this may not be very noticeable because the insects don't usually have much time on stage and in several scenes they appear in fast movements and quick appearances so you don't have much time to appreciate their designs, although they are not exactly scary in their designs, they do manage to be a little shocking for some quite realistic details that it has, in the end it is a representation of a giant insect without seeking to have a particularly frightening design, although the little appearance of insects is not used in a very disturbing or mysterious way to create an element of suspense or intrigue in the story.
Perhaps one of the aspects of the story that can be boring or anticlimactic is the Ecchi, there are some quite suggestive Ecchi scenes that in the end feel very forced in the story and simply help the story to lose its horror or gore aspects, especially considering that the latter two are not very well developed. One aspect that does manage to generate interest and is done in a good way is the mystery behind all the insects, it is not explained why they appeared, but it is made clear that they do not have much time and little by little it seems that it is all about a strange experiment, although in the end no clear explanation of this is given and it is simply left aside.
The main positive point in Kyochuu Rettou Movie is undoubtedly its animation, which is very good, with very detailed designs and very intense and marked colors that generate a good visual result, this can be appreciated even more in the scenes where it focuses and highlights the facial expressions of some characters at different times and with different emotions such as fear, amazement and even horror to see somewhat disturbing scenes. They really manage to illustrate very well the emotions of the characters with the close-up of their faces. The ending of the story, although entertaining, is also an open ending and with the whole story unfinished, it makes it clear that another movie or series must come to continue the story and although it is always entertaining these endings that serve as a prelude to the next work, it is also a bit annoying especially if it takes a long time or even never releases the next film.

The thought of giant insects irks me. hahaha I don't mind most insects, but I dread cockroaches... So I never really read Terra Formars... XD
hahahaha i think it is a concept that can be very uncomfortable. they would be very annoying.
For real... xDDD
I think this anime has the ability to awaken the worst phobias of many of us, those insects look terrifying. And well, I understand about the open finale, that's not usually convenient in movies that are not so mediatic.
Thanks for sharing!
without a doubt the worst thing of all would be to see giant insects, much worse if you have a phobia of these animals. open endings have always seemed to me a bit annoying when there is still no continuity or at least not coming from a previous series and you know that more works will come later.
It looks super interesting. That there's gore and a horror behind a story that apparently doesn't have much to offer catches my attention. It's the same for me with the blessed Ecchi scenes, I don't understand why they include them if they don't add anything, they bore me when there's no context for them.
Anyway, it looks good, the animation certainly looks top notch and a story of suspense and terror is always good.
the movie was entertaining, its animation is very good and makes it fun, although it is not the best in terms of horror or gore it is good. but as you say Ecchi in forced moments or in stories that are not based on that as the main thing just looks a little bad.
hahahahaha it's a bit disturbing the giant insects really are
hey you're right, there was a time when giant animal stories were common haha. despite the CGI it's fun and not so ugly to look at :D
