I think that in romance animes the most used archetype that becomes very generic and boring at the beginning is the shy and lonely character, there are many if not practically all romance animes, especially school animes where the main character is the typical student isolated from the group, afraid to talk especially with his love interest, that character that if he is missing no one will notice.
I agree, that's why I don't usually watch romance. It's the same story over and over again
