It seems like a good story all around (even though it focuses on a single athlete), I think you describe the qualities of this anime quite well. By the way, just watching the trailer is enough to realize that the movements of the athletes are quite fluid, that's great.

It is! His life story is interesting and engaging enough for you to continue watching. However, I prefer getting to know the other athletes more. The anime only has 11 episodes and there were other issues to address, so it's understandable. :)
