Today I want to talk to you about one of the best anime series of the fantasy and action genre that have been broadcasted at the beginning of this year, besides being one of the most popular and controversial to date. A work that many will have already seen, heard or read before, but on this occasion I will give you my most sincere opinion of a work as expected as this one. Based on the web novel (Manhwa) written by Chugong, this animated adaptation was produced by the famous studio A-21 Pictures. Being the first anime adaptation of a famous Webtoon I have ever seen in my life, I must admit that it is a work worth watching and enjoying, although I still suggest you to stay until the end and know what I think about it. Plot
The anime takes us to a world where strange portals have suddenly appeared in certain areas that take those who approach to places called Dungeons where all kinds of dangerous monsters inhabit. Since then, certain humans with unique abilities called "Hunters" have appeared and are hired to explore these dungeons to protect humanity from unprecedented annihilation. This has become part of human survival, as well as a way of living and earning money, with organizations and groups of professional hunters. Among them all is our protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, who is an E-ranked hunter who is popularly known as "the Weakest Hunter", since in almost every exploration he has gone on he always ends up badly wounded or on the verge of death.
One day, in a common exploration with a group of hunters, our protagonist goes on an adventure to a new dungeon, which to everyone's bad luck ends up being an incredibly powerful double dungeon. In it, almost all the members die, leaving only a few, among whom is Sung Jinwoo, who is abandoned by four other survivors at his request to serve as a decoy. Faced with monsters in the form of giant statues of knights, possessed and invincible, our protagonist is decapitated, after suffering a terrible and humiliating beating that leaves him without an arm and a leg. Suddenly, when it seems that he is about to die, he suddenly wakes up in the hospital and learns that he has miraculously survived the dangerous double dungeon, as well as being intact and as if nothing had happened to him. Although, a voice in his mind sounds and calling himself "System" screens appear that only he can see with statistics and data, as if he were in a video game.

It's funny how popular this anime became at the time, being one of the most anticipated animated adaptations of a popular Webtoon or Manhwa, as far as I know. But unfortunately the criticism it received when it aired and the way it was forgotten nowadays is something I personally don't see the point of. Yes, I admit that having seen it on air (as I did with all the anime I always bring you) it gave me that impression of being the typical fantasy story of the invincible hero who fights monsters and gets a "Harem". At the beginning the main character, as well as the supporting characters, gave me a feeling of being a simple copy of the typical protagonist. Nothing original, in the theme of the fantasy and action genre. But if we talk about the animation theme then I can give it a well-deserved 10/10 (only in the animation, I repeat), besides the way they always leave you with the excitement in the skies at the end of each chapter with incredible battles.

Es curioso lo popular que llegó a ser este anime en su momento, siendo una de las adaptaciones animadas más esperadas de un Webtoon o Manhwa popular, que yo sepa. Pero lamentablemente la crítica que recibió cuando se emitió y la forma en la que fue olvidada actualmente es algo que personalmente no le veo sentido. Si, admito que al haberla visto en emisión (como hice con todos los animes que les traigo siempre) me dió esa impresión de ser la típica historia de fantasía del héroe invencible que lucha con monstruos y consigue un “Harem”. Al principio el personaje principal, al igual que los secundarios, me dieron una sensación de ser una simple copia del típico protagonista de siempre. Nada original, en el tema del género de fantasía y de acción. Pero si hablamos del tema de animación entonces le puedo dar un merecido 10/10 (solo en la animación, repito), además de la forma en la que te dejan siempre con la emoción en los cielos al final de cada capítulo con batallas increíbles.

Let's start talking about the main character, Sung Jinwoo, who is presented from the beginning as the typical low-class hunter or adventurer, the weakest of all (cliché) who is confronted out of nowhere with a double invincible dungeon and who by miracle - or script, rather - survives, thus receiving an ability that makes him level up and get other skills, that is, he becomes "cheat" out of nowhere (also cliché). This one, having always been a weakling but never having given up, decides to take advantage of his second chance to level up and defeat more monsters while trying to go unnoticed without standing out so much, things he does not achieve since he always ends up saving someone's life from an enemy or a hunter or dangerous group (another cliché, really). As we can see, this protagonist is a simple cliché, in my opinion, who only stands out for working hard to level up and risk his life with every challenge and battle he has.
I won't say anything about the rest of the characters, as they are the typical secondary characters that are only there to fill in for all the generic action and fantasy anime. On the narrative side we also see a curious way of telling us a story with a single point of view (the protagonist's, obviously) where we can gradually learn how dungeons work in this modern world full of hunters. Although in the first chapters we notice a very slow start, personally, with our protagonist starting from scratch, practically, with getting to level up and how the "System" he has now helps him to fulfill missions or tasks to improve and become stronger; it is not until the middle or even at the end that we see the real action that everyone expects from this kind of anime. Other than that, the way our protagonist and the story unfolds can become interesting at first.

Empecemos hablando del protagonista, Sung Jinwoo, quien nos lo presenta desde el principio como el típico cazador o aventurero de clase baja, el más débil de todos (cliché) que se enfrenta de la nada con una mazmorra doble e invencible y que por milagro - o guión, mejor dicho - sobrevive recibiendo así una habilidad que lo hace subir de nivel y conseguir otras habilidades, o sea, se vuelve “chetado” de la nada (cliché también). Este, por haber sido siempre un debilucho pero nunca haberse rendido, decide aprovechar su segunda oportunidad para subir de nivel y conseguir vencer a más monstruos mientras intenta pasar desapercibido sin destacar tanto, cosas que no consigue ya que siempre termina salvándole la vida a alguien de un enemigo o un cazador o grupo peligroso (otro cliché, la verdad). Como vemos, este protagonista es un simple cliché, a mí parecer, que solo se destaca por trabajar duro en subir de nivel y arriesgar la vida con cada desafío y batalla que tiene.
De los demás personajes no diré nada ya que tampoco es que se tenga mucho de qué hablar al ser los típicos personajes secundarios que están solo para hacer relleno en todos los animes genéricos de acción y fantasía. En el lado narrativo vemos también una forma curiosa de contarnos una historia con un solo punto de vista (el del protagonista, obviamente) donde podemos conocer poco a poco cómo funcionan las mazmorras en este mundo moderno repleto de cazadores. Si bien en los primeros capítulos notamos un inicio muy lento, en lo personal, con nuestro protagonista empezando desde cero, prácticamente, con conseguir subir de nivel y cómo el “Sistema” que tiene ahora le ayuda a cumplir con misiones o tareas para mejorar y volverse más fuerte; no es sino a la mitad o incluso al final que vemos la acción de verdad que todo el mundo espera de este tipo de animes. Aparte de esto, la forma en la que nuestro protagonista y la historia se desarrolla puede llegar a ser interesante al principio.

On the other hand, when it comes to action, battles, fantasy and drama, this anime has everything that any fan of these things wants to see. With a very good high quality animation that shows us the excellent work that the famous studio A-21 Pictures can offer us, this story contains an excellent amount of battles with action sequences and a drawing and animation style that is quite catching. Along with this we can also enjoy good sound effects, some simulating a real life video game with dungeons and powerful monsters, and an excellently done soundtrack. Although, as I said before, the action starts a little late, this is worth it since it has very good battles at the end. All in all, an anime that obviously I don't consider it the best of its genre, but it does have everything you need to watch it.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating as far as the fantasy/action genre is concerned.

Por otro lado, cuando hablamos de acción, batallas, fantasía y drama, este anime tiene todo lo que cualquier fanático de estas cosas desea ver. Con una muy buena animación de alta calidad que nos muestra el excelente trabajo que nos puede llegar a ofrecer el famoso estudio A-21 Pictures, esta historia contiene una excelente cantidad de batallas con secuencias de acción y un estilo de dibujo y animación que atrapa bastante. Junto con esto también podemos disfrutar de buenos efectos de sonido, algunos simulando ser un videojuego en la vida real con mazmorras y monstruos poderosos, y una banda sonora excelentemente hecha. Si bien, como dije antes, la acción inicia un poco tarde, esto vale la pena ya que tiene muy buenas batallas al final. En fin, un anime que obviamente no lo considero el mejor de todos de su género, pero que sí tiene todo lo que se necesita para verlo.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía y acción.

That famous creepy smile of that giant, it's everywhere and really become a meme. But to be honest, I didn't enjoy this as much as the webtoon. I only watch it until episode 9 or 10, I think, and I drop it. Lol. I still prefer the manhwa, but yep when it comes to animation it is really good.

This manhwa became so popular that it reached my ears even when I was not interested in these trends. A friend from my old job recommended it to me and I started reading it without any expectations, but to my surprise it was a great story.
The anime adaptation is great, too bad the 1st season was so short.

I didn't know anything about Manhwas either until this one went viral, long before the anime started airing. This animated adaptation is practically the one that has had the greatest impact on the culture and the world of Manhwas, so much so that now we see more adaptations of Korean works to anime. I don't know if Solo Leveling started it all, there must have been older animated adaptations, but this is the one that has had the most impact.
And I agree, apart from it being a bit slow at times, I also feel that this first season was very short, or is that the feeling you get when it leaves you with the HYPE in the skies with the end. 🤔

From what I heard, they left out many things that happened in the Manhwa probably because they wanted to focus on the most important stuff, so maybe there's more of the character development that wouldn't be that cliché (idk I haven't read it)
But even with the cliches and all I believe it's a really entertaining anime because it has the perfect amount of action and fantasy, making it an exciting story easy to watch. I would also give it a 9/10.

Solo levelling experienced something like this. Thinking about it now,I did notice its fame reduction. Probably because it's a simple anime that's been hyped since last year?
