Hello, Hive friends.
Since this anime was released in 2018 I've read many comments recommending to watch it, including those of some friends who got tired of telling me to watch it, but it just didn't really catch my attention and I was dragging my feet on the case, so much so that it took me 7 years to give it a chance and I finally watched it.
This time I come to tell you about Banana Fish, an anime adaptation of the homonymous manga by author Akimi Yoshida, which was serialized in Japan by Bessatsu Shojo Comic of Shogakukan between 1985 and 1994.
In this series we meet Ash Lynx, a 17 year old teenager who, due to life circumstances, becomes a juvenile delinquent and despite his young age is already the leader of a gang in New York. His life is turned upside down when he meets Eiji Okumura, a Japanese boy who arrives in the United States as the companion of a well-known Japanese photographer and reporter who comes to do a report on street gangs..
Things get complicated when Ash comes across a dying man in a lonely alley and he says the words Banana Fish to him, which he associates with an incident that happened to his brother and decides to investigate what or who this Banana Fish is without knowing that there are very powerful people behind the whole thing, getting into a very big investigation involving members of the mafia and assassins.
Before I give you my opinion about this series, I must warn you that it includes graphic violence and touches quite sensitive issues such as sexual violence, although in the latter case it is not explicit and does not show anything that could help feed the morbid curiosity of certain people weirdos, and unlike many other cases where they only use this resource in order to give the protagonist a motive for revenge without showing the real consequences of such acts, here they do show how it affects the life of someone who has lived a situation like this and it is more crude to know that it is not mere fiction, because unfortunately these are things that happen every day around the world.
This anime was produced by MAPPA, and although I have not read the manga, I have read that they made a very faithful adaptation of the original work. It has 24 episodes, which covers the whole work, and its animation seems to me to be a mix between the styles of the current anime and the anime of the 90's, trying to keep some of the style of the original manga.
Its main characters have quite deep stories, especially Ash, who has had to practically live through hell since he was a child, which explains why he became the leader of a criminal gang at such a young age. The supporting characters are also very colorful and you get to get attached to several of them, although I would recommend that you don't get attached to any character in particular because you will get very sad watching this series.
The antagonists are so well done that you really come to hate them, and that's quite a lot to say when talking about a fictional work. Characters like Golzine, Arthur or Colonel Fox really make you wish for something very bad to happen to them, to say the least hahaha.
As for my opinion, I must say that it is a pretty crude anime, with a lot of violence and that it touches on delicate issues in a wonderful way. I think that with these words it is quite clear that it is NOT an anime suitable for children, so avoid having your children watch it unless they are of a suitable age for that kind of content.
This series touches the heartstrings of viewers, because despite the violence we see in each episode, we can also see how love and friendship can make a difference in certain circumstances, and although love is not spoken in a direct way, it is quite implicit.
As I said before, I don't recommend you to get attached to any character because you can get some disappointments, because I repeat, being an anime where the protagonist is a juvenile delinquent and leader of a criminal gang, there is a lot of violence and.... I better not say anything else 🤫🤐
I really regret having delayed so long in deciding to watch this series, because it really is one of those hidden gems that, although maybe it's not so popular, it's totally worth watching. I highly recommend it.
If you ask me for a rating, I'd give it a 9/10. And I must admit that the point I'm subtracting is for its ending, which I'll just say that it wasn't entirely to my liking, but overall Banana Fish is almost a masterpiece.

Desde que se estrenó este anime en 2018 he leído muchos comentarios recomendando verlo, incluídos los de algunas amistades que se cansaron de decirme que lo viera, pero simplemente no me llamaba mucho la atención y le estaba dando largas al caso, tanto así que me demoré 7 años en darle una oportunidad y finalmente lo vi.
En esta oportunidad vengo a hablarles de Banana Fish, adaptación al anime del manga homónimo del autor Akimi Yoshida, que fue serializado en Japón por Bessatsu Shojo Comic de Shogakukan entre 1985 y 1994.
En esta serie conocemos a Ash Lynx, un adolescente de 17 años que por circunstancias de la vida experiencias que le ha tocado vivir desde niño se convierte en delicuente juvenil y a pesar de su corta edad ya es jefe de una pandilla en Nueva York. Su vida da un vuelco cuando conoce a Eiji Okumura, un chico japonés que llega a Estados Unidos como acompañante de un reconocido fotógrafo y reportero japonés que viene a realizar un reportaje sobre pandillas callejeras.
Las cosas se complican cuando Ash se topa a un hombre moribundo en un solitario callejón y este le dice las palabras Banana Fish, las cuales asocia con un incidente que le sucedió a su hermano y decide investigar qué o quién es ese tal Banana Fish sin saber que hay gente muy poderosa detrás de todo este asunto, metiéndose en una investigación muy grande que involucra a miembros de la mafia y a asesinos.
Antes de pasar a darles mi opinión sobre esta serie, debo advertir que la misma incluye violencia gráfica y toca temas bastante delicados como la violencia sexual, aunque en este último caso no es nada explícito ni muestra nada que pueda ayudar a alimentar el morbo de ciertas personas enfermos, y a diferencia de muchos otros casos donde solo usan este recurso con el fin de darle al protagonista un motivo de venganza sin mostrar verdaderas consecuencias de dichos actos, acá sí muestran cómo llega afectar la vida de alguien que haya vivido una situación así y es más crudo saber que no es mera ficción, porque lamentablemente son cosas que pasan a diario en todo el mundo.
Este anime fue producido por MAPPA, y aunque no he leído el manga, he leído que hicieron una adaptación muy fiel de la obra original. Cuenta con 24 episodios, lo que cubre toda la obra, y su animación me parece que es una mezcla entre los estilos del anime actual y el anime de los 90, tratando de mantener algo del estilo del manga original.
Sus personajes principales tienen historias bastante profundas, especialmente Ash, quien ha tenido que vivir prácticamente un infierno desde muy niño, lo que explica por qué se convirtió en lider de una banda criminal a tan temprana edad. Los personajes secundarios también son muy pintorescos y llegas a encariñarte con varios de ellos, aunque recomendaría que no se encariñen con ningún personaje en especial porque se pondrán muy tristes viendo esta serie.
Los antagonistas están tan bien hechos que realmente llegas a odiarlos, y eso es bastante decir al hablar de una obra ficticia. Personajes como Golzine, Arthur o el Coronel Fox realmente te hacen desear que les pase algo muy malo, por no decir otra cosa jajaja.
En cuanto a mi opinión, debo decir que es un anime bastante crudo, con mucha violencia y que toca temas delicados de una forma maravillosa. Creo que con estas palabras queda bastante claro que NO es un anime apto para niños, así que eviten que sus hijos lo vean a menos que tengan una edad adecuada para ese tipo de contenido.
Esta serie toca las fibras sensibles de los espectadores, ya que a pesar de la violencia que vemos en cada episodio, tampoco podemos ver cómo el amor y la amistad pueden hacer la diferencia en ciertas circunstancias, y aunque el amor no lo hablan de manera directa, queda bastante implícito.
Como dije anteriormente, no recomiendo que te encariñes con ningún personaje porque puedes llevarte algunas decepciones, porque repito, al ser un anime donde el protagonista es un delicuente juvenil y líder de una banda criminal, hay mucha violencia y... mejor no digo nada más 🤫🤐
La verdad me arrepiento de haber demorado tanto tiempo en decidirme a ver esta serie, porque de verdad es una de esas joyas ocultas que, aunque quizás no es tan popular, vale totalmente la pena verla. La recomiendo mucho.
Si me preguntas por una calificación, le daría un 9/10. Y debo admitir que el punto que estoy restando es por su final, del que solo diré que no fue del todo de mi agrado, pero en términos generales Banana Fish es casi una obra maestra.

Este anime me lo han recomendado muchísimo, especialmente por mis gustos, pero tengo que confesar que ver a mi hermana y a una de mis mejores amigas desconsoladas después de terminarlo… me hizo pensarlo dos veces🙃
Sé que es una historia cruda y profunda, y tus palabras solo me lo confirman. Me encanta cómo resaltaste la forma en que trata temas delicados con respeto y realismo, eso me atrae bastante. Aun así, siento que va a romper mis fibras sensibles… pero creo que en algún momento me animaré a verlo✨
No te voy a mentir. Si eres alguien sensible, te va a afectar bastante este anime. En lo particular yo soy bastante duro en ese aspecto, en cuanto a no suelo demostrar mis sentimientos y esas cosas, y debo admitir que se me escaparon un par de lágrimas viéndolo, además que su final rompió algo dentro de mí que no sabía que existía. Duele de manera diferente. Pero mantengo mi postura en cuanto a la recomendación, porque vale la pena el sufrimiento jajaja

No he visto el anime, pero sí su final y ya con eso me arruine toda la historia jaja pero es cierto que es un anime crudo no apto para niños, aunque el estilo de dibujo diga lo contrario, es un anime con temas muy delicados 💔
Yo ya sabía lo que ocurría al final pero no había visto nada ni sabía cómo ocurría, aunque viendo la serie me fui dando una idea de lo que pasaría. Dale una oportunidad y velo, vale totalmente la pena.
I haven't read the manga either, but the anime left me feeling emotionally unstable. If you're going through a bad time, it's not recommended, especially if you're someone who gets attached to the characters. 😆 The plot is too good, even for me, who's not a fan of violent themes. I was hooked from the first episode and would watch the anime again... but I'm not that strong, haha. 😭

Yes!! Animes as good and heartbreaking as these have that disadvantage: you want to watch them again, but you don't do it right away because you know you'll inevitably suffer again, haha.

Yo este anime hace añooooos lo intenté ver pero me dió vibras de anime yaoi el primer capítulo y simplemente no pude, puede que en algún momento le intente dar otra oportunidad, quizás hoy en día sea más tolerante con esa clase de historias.
La verdad sí tiene algo de yaoi, pero la historia no se centra en eso más allá de la importancia que tiene Ash para Eiji y viceversa. Ese aspecto pasa a segundo plano con la trama principal de la historia, que es descubrir qué o quién es Banana Fish y todo lo que esto conlleva.
