March comes in like a lion(2016)

Asides reddit and Instagram reels,I also have this certain human that gives me anime recommendations. He's been my guide since day 1. Alright, some days back,I mean weeks back,we were talking about Castlevania nocturne and Castlevania as a whole. Talking about all the characters, what it should've been, how great the entire story line was but could've been something more. It was lovely just discussing and talking about what we liked and didn't like about the show.

And then,he goes off to mention,"March comes in like a Lion". I don't really flow well with anime and some of the wild names they be giving them. Sometimes,it makes me cringe so hard and I say this with absolute respect.

March Comes in Like a Lion is a thought-provoking anime that delves into the complexities of human emotions, relationships, and the struggles of growing up. The series follows the life of Rei Kiriyama, a 17-year-old professional shogi player who's struggling to find his place in the world.

Rei's life is a bleak one - he's estranged from his family, has few friends, and spends most of his time alone, wandering the streets of Tokyo. His only solace is shogi, but even that's becoming a chore. That is, until he meets the Kawamoto sisters - Akari, Hinata, and Momo - who take Rei under their wing and introduce him to a world of warmth and connection.

As Rei spends more time with the Kawamotos, he begins to open up and confront his emotional scars. He forms a particularly strong bond with Akari, who becomes a source of comfort and support for him. However, their relationship is put to the test when Rei's past comes back to haunt him, courtesy of his estranged family and a rival shogi player, Harunobu Nikaido.

Throughout the series, Rei grapples with themes of loneliness, family, and human connection. He's forced to confront the harsh realities of his past and the imperfections of those around him. But he's also shown the beauty of human relationships and the power of kindness and compassion.

One of the standout aspects of March Comes in Like a Lion is its character development. Rei, Akari, and the rest of the cast are multidimensional and relatable, with flaws and strengths that make them feel like real people. The series also explores themes of mental health, trauma, and recovery, handling them with sensitivity and nuance.

Spoiler!!!
At the end of everything,Rei falls in love with one of the sisters. Very beautiful something.

The animation of this anime is beautiful, with a muted color palette that reflects Rei's melancholic mood. The soundtrack, featuring a mix of jazz and folk music, adds to the show's contemplative atmosphere.

The title of the anime still cracks me up a lot. It's a great show.
