I think it's the chosen one thingy—like there are a lot of other characters who could potentially beat up the antagonist, but because he's the chosen one, the mc—he'll train hard, and then from being weak, he'll soon become strong with the help of a cool yet weird sensei who mostly has weird fetishes or secret kinks (ahahaha, I've been reading and watching stuff like this for years lol). These chosen one and cool+weird sensei archetypes were something that I've encountered in almost all (or was it all?) shonen anime that I've watched, so I guess it's really overused—but who would care for that if the plot's good?
