En el post de hoy estaré hablando sobre Violet Evergarden, uno de mis animes favoritos de todos los tiempos, y del por que considero que es una obra de arte que todo amante de la animación debería ver. ¡No se preocupen, este post esta libre de spoilers! simplemente daré una breve explicación de la trama.
In today's post I'll be talking about Violet Evergarden, one of my favorite anime of all time, and why I consider it a work of art that every animation lover should watch. Don't worry, this post is spoiler free, I will simply give a brief explanation of the plot!.
El viaje de Violet
Violet's journey
Violet es una joven que, durante su corta vida, solo ha sido utilizada como un "arma" de guerra, debido a sus extraordinarias capacidades de combate. Un día, es capturada y entregada al general Gilbert Bougainvillea, quien desde un primer momento, no piensa en Violet como un arma, sino como una persona normal, con sentimientos. Ambos desarrollan un fuerte vínculo, hasta que en una de las batallas, Violet termina gravemente herida, perdiendo sus brazos, mientras que Gilbert acaba muriendo, no sin antes mencionarle la frase que marcaría para siempre la vida de Violet: Yo te amo. Sin embargo, la joven no logra comprender el significado de tal declaración, pues jamás la había escuchado, "¿Por que el general me dijo esas palabras?", se preguntó. Violet es llevada al hospital, donde le colocan una prótesis para sustituir los brazos que perdió, además, es dejada a cargo de Claudia Hodgins, quien es dueño de una compañía dedicada a escribir cartas, las cuales son redactadas por las "Auto Memory Dolls", chicas con la capacidad de entender los sentimientos de las personas, y plasmarlos en papel mediante el uso de una máquina de escribir. Finalmente, Violet toma una decisión:
Violet is a young girl who, during her short life, has only been used as a "weapon" of war, due to her extraordinary combat abilities. One day, she is captured and given to General Gilbert Bougainvillea, who from the very beginning, does not think of Violet as a weapon, but as a normal person with feelings. Both develop a strong bond, until in one of the battles, Violet ends up seriously wounded, losing her arms, while Gilbert ends up dying, but not before mentioning to her the phrase that would mark Violet's life forever: I love you. However, the young woman does not understand the meaning of such a statement, as she had never heard it before, she wondered "Why did the general say those words to me?". Violet is taken to the hospital, where she is fitted with a prosthesis to replace the arms she lost, and is left in the care of Claudia Hodgins, who owns a company dedicated to writing letters, which are written by the "Auto memory dolls", girls with the ability to understand people's feelings and put them on paper using a typewriter. Finally, Violet makes a decision:
"To understand those words of the general, I want to become an Auto memory doll".
Así comienza la historia de nuestra amada Auto Memory Doll, donde viajará de un lado a otro, a lo largo de todo el país, escribiendo cartas para toda clase de personas, y dejando una marca imborrable en la vida de cada una de estas, porque todo aquel que haya conocido a Violet Evergarden, jamás podrá olvidarla, y al mismo tiempo, ella aprende de estas experiencias, para acercarse cada vez más a entender aquellas palabras que tanto persigue. Siempre pronunciando su característica frase de presentación, que quedará por siempre grabada en mi mente:
Violet Evergarden"
Thus begins the story of our beloved Auto Memory Doll, where she will travel from one place to another, all over the country, writing letters to all kinds of people, and leaving an indelible mark in the life of each one of them, because everyone who has met Violet Evergarden, will never forget her, and at the same time, she learns from these experiences, to get closer and closer to understand those words that she pursues so much:
"If you want my services, I will travel anywhere to help you, Auto Memory Doll,

Una sinfonía audiovisual perfecta
A perfect audiovisual symphony
Violet Evergarden no es perfecta, su historia no es especialmente compleja, el ritmo puede llegar a ser lento, y se pudo haber hecho un mejor trabajo con el desarrollo de varios personajes, soy totalmente consciente de ello, pero, este anime tiene una cosa que contrarresta todo lo anterior, una cosa a la cual me gusta llamar "magia", y es algo que pocos, de verdad, muy pocos animes tienen. La "magia" son aquellos momentos en los cuales la animación, banda sonora y dirección, se juntan para crear momentos que aceleran el corazón, que emocionan, que te teletransportan y te hacen sentir dentro de ese mundo, y Violet Evergarden logra esto en muchas ocasiones.
Violet Evergarden is not perfect, its story is not particularly complex, the pacing can get slow, and it could have done a better job with the development of several characters, I am fully aware of that, but, this anime has one thing that counteracts all of the above, a thing I like to call "magic", and it is something that few, really, very few anime have. The "magic " are those moments in which the animation, soundtrack, and direction, come together to create moments that accelerate the heart, that thrill, that teleport you and make you feel inside that world, and Violet Evergarden achieves this on many occasions.
La animación está sencillamente en otro nivel, incluso si se le compara con largometrajes. Los detalles en la iluminación de los escenarios, el sombreado, los reflejos que se ven en los espejos y en el agua, la increíble paleta de colores, los time skips de los escenarios dibujados a mano, y un sinfin de detalles más, los cuales me lamento no poder apreciar, por no ser un animador. Además, el diseño de los personajes y sus expresiones faciales, hacen que podamos empatizar con ellos, por más que muchos sean personajes simples, es la manera en como están representados lo que les dota de una humanidad increíble.
The animation is simply on another level, even when compared to feature films. The details in the lighting of the scenery, the shading, the reflections seen in the mirrors and in the watter, the incredible color palette, the time skips of the hand-drawn scenery, and an endless number of other details, which I regret not being able to appreciate, for not being an animator. In addition, the design of the characters and their facial expressions, make us empathize with them, even though many of them are simple characters, it is the way they are represented that gives them an incredible humanity.
La banda sonora es otro de los aspectos mas importantes de este anime, con temas calmados, dramáticos y emotivos. Muchos están acostumbrados a asociar las bandas sonoras de acción épicas como las mejores, pero Violet Evergarden demuestra todo lo contrario, no necesita colocar temas extremadamente fuertes e intensos, al contrario, apuesta por la tranquilidad y la armonía. Por su puesto, tiene varios temas que suben un poco el tono, los cuales generalmente se usan para momentos dramáticos, pero este aumento de tono siempre mantiene la armonía que mencione anteriormente. Mientras escribo este post, tengo la banda sonora de fondo, y me sorprende como absolutamente todos los temas se han quedado grabados en mi cabeza, y es que la banda sonora de Violet Evergarden está presente en todo momento, ya sea cuando Violet escribe una carta, o con situaciones cotidianas de sus personajes, la música es un elemento activo de esta historia, y al igual que la animación, ayuda a sumergirte más en este mundo. Por supuesto, aparte de los temas instrumentales, también podemos encontrar varias canciones interpretadas por excelentes artistas, destacando sobre todo el opening, que me parece una maravilla. Para no extenderme mas, les dejo uno de mis temas favoritos, que estoy seguro ayudará a representar mejor todo lo que les acabo de mencionar.
The soundtrack is another of the most important aspects of this anime, with calm, dramatic and emotional themes. Many are used to associate epic action soundtracks as the best, but Violet Evergarden proves the opposite, it does not need to place extremely strong and intense themes, on the contrary, it bets for tranquility and harmony. Of course, it has several themes that raise the tone a bit, which are generally used for dramatic moments, but this increase in tone always maintains the harmony I mentioned before. As I write this post, I have the soundtrack playing in the background, and I am surprised how absolutely all the themes have stuck in my head, and is that the soundtrack of Violet Evergarden is present at all times, either when Violet writes a letter, or with everyday situations of its characters, the music is an active element of this story, and like the animation, helps to immerse you more in this world. Of course, apart from the instrumental themes, we can also find several songs performed by excellent artists, highlighting especially the opening, which I think is a marvel. To not extend more, I leave you one of my favorite songs, which I'm sure will help to better represent everything I just mentioned.
Por último, lo que termina de darle forma a todo esto, es la dirección, con encuadres y planos que combinan perfectamente con la animación y banda sonora, creando una perfecta sinfonía audiovisual, que logra que historias simples, como un padre despidiéndose de su hija, o una muchacha abandonando el hogar donde creció, se transformen en momentos increíbles, capaces de dejarte soltando lagrimas, porque ahí está la grandeza de Violet Evergarden, transforma lo simple, en algo mágico, y es por eso que, es una obra de arte.
Finally, what ends up giving shape to all this, is the direction, with framing and shots that combine perfectly with the animation and soundtrack, creating a perfect audiovisual symphony, which achieves that simple stories, like a father saying goodbye to his daughter, or a girl leaving the home where she grew up, are transformed into incredible moments, capable of leaving you shedding tears, because that is the greatness of Violet Evergarden, transforms the simple into something magical, and that is why it is a work of art.
Sentimientos más allá de la pantalla
Feelings beyond the screen
Aquellas obras que, una vez terminadas, te dejan pensando, reflexionando, e incluso dejan una marca en ti, son sin dudas las más memorables. Mientras acompañaba a Violet durante todo su viaje, pude entender mejor algo que ya desde antes me apasionaba, la escritura. Ver la evolución de Violet a través de sus cartas, me hizo apreciar aún más el arte de escribir, la cantidad de sentimientos que podemos expresar a través de este medio, cosas que, quizás no somos capaces de decir, pero si de escribir, pues muchas veces esto ayuda a darle la forma que queremos a nuestros pensamientos, ¿acaso no es esto lo que solemos hacer en Hive?. Y ahora, mientras termino de redactar este post, y escucho el sonido del teclado, similar a una máquina de escribir, no puedo evitar sentirme emocionado, y todo es gracias a la Auto Memory Doll, Violet Evergarden.
Those works that, once finished, leave you thinking, reflecting, and even leave a mark on you, are undoubtedly the most memorable. As I accompanied Violet throughout her journey, I was able to better understand something that I had been passionate about even before: writing. Seeing Violet's evolution through her letters, made me appreciate even more the art of writing, the amount of feelings that we can express through this medium, things that, maybe we are not able to say, but we are able to write, because many times this helps to give the shape we want to our thoughts, isn't this what we usually do in Hive? And now, as I finish writing this post, and I hear the sound of the keyboard, similar to a typewriter, I can't help but feel excited, and it's all thanks to the Auto Memory Doll, Violet Evergarden.
Bueno amigos, hasta aqui el post de hoy, la verdad es uno de los que más he disfrutado de hacer, y es por lo mucho que me apasiona esta obra. La pelicula comienza haciendo referencia a uno de los capítulos con los que más lloré en el anime, golpe bajo, pelicula, golpe bajo.
