DOGSRED --- another sports manga with potential!

One of the reasons why I slept late during New Year's Eve is that I was reading a very interesting manga on MANGA Plus. It's another sports manga under Young Jump entitled, DOGSRED.

NOTE: Photos are screenshots from the manga.

DOGSRED is a sports mange about ice hockey. I'm not very familiar with ice hockey, but I remember one of my favorite movies in my childhood The Mighty Ducks. Well, I always learn more about sports from anime and manga, so it's a great opportunity for me to know more about the said sport.

During the All-Japan Junior Championships 2010, Rou Shirakawa broke the record for receiving the highest score. This performance was extra special for him because it was the last piece his late mother taught him. His mom unfortunately passed away in an accident before the championships.

However, for some reason, he suddenly lost control of his mind and started vandalizing the place by throwing chairs into the rink and destroying the stage. This resulted in his disqualification and banishment from the skating world. He's then known as the Rabid Prince following this incident.

With what happened in the competition and the loss of their mother, he and his sister moved to Tamakomai, an ice hockey town in Hokkaido where his maternal grandfather lives.

Despite his banishment, Rou still loves skating. He went to a hockey rink on a frozen lake near his grandpa's house and met the Genma brothers. He didn't really have that much of a great first meeting, especially with the younger one.

They, Rou and the younger Genma (Keiichi), were both middle schoolers at that time. Due to some circumstances, Rou found himself joining his school's ice hockey team as a stand-in member and they ended up playing against the younger Genma's team.

Although excellent at skating, he's a total noob when it comes to ice hockey. Luckily, his grandpa turned out to be an ex-Olympian who played ice hockey for the national team.

In high school, Rou and Keiichi both ended up going to Oinokami which is known for its ice hockey team. How will the former Figure skating champion do in this strong but beautiful battle sport? I wonder...

The manga has around 38 chapters so far and is still ongoing, but from what I've read, it shows really great potential. It's fun, engaging, and exciting to read. And the art style is also quite unique and sometimes pretty goofy.

The characters have intriguing personalities, especially the two main ones, Rou and Keiichi. Their relationship is so funny that they're like oil and water. They just never get along and tend to bicker every opportunity they have. I wonder how they'd both do in major games in the future chapters. I'm smelling character development along the way.

The matches so far were so enjoyable and their way of practicing is so hilariously random. It's almost a gag sports manga because of the comical aspect they injected into the story.

If the upcoming chapters are as good if not better than the released ones, this will definitely have an anime someday. For now, I'll enjoy the weekly updates and patiently wait for it to be animated.

It shows great potential and as a sports anime and manga fan, I'd vouch for it! If you're into sports manga, then I recommend you check this one as well. It's definitely worth it!

Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

I loved the drawing in this manga, although sports genres are very difficult for me to read.

The art style is unique and goofy, so it's fun to see... You'll get used to them eventually... Hahah

It's amazing how these damn Japanese can create a story with any sport. They are geniuses.
I wonder if there will be something about golf xd.
This manga maybe can be adapted to series, but it's too early to tell. We have to wait for the volumes to progress.
Greetings and I hope you had a good start of the year.

That's true... :) I haven't read or watched them, but there are golf-related ones. I'll check them out someday. :)

And yeah, they need to build up more before it could get adapted. :)
Have a good year, too!

Okay,I love sport animes but we need to tell these mangakas to calm down!😂
"I'm gonna paint a goal line with your blood?". Oh my goodness, I'm wheezing..

Hahahaha... He's one interesting dude! It's like he short circuits all the time.

Thank you for sharing this post with the community and for preferring us, it is a pleasure for us to have you here.

We hope to see you soon. Best regards!

See you around!!! Happy New Year! <3

I've always been attracted to manga, strangely I'm not a manga reader, but reading these lines makes me want to read them. The sports stories are incredible, you'd think they could be calm, but what the heck, there is a top violence implicit in them.

Hahaha... it depends on the manga, but this one is kind of rowdy in an entertaining way. I could say the same for Rumble Rugby as the main character is quite wild. haha
