My mom and I rewatched the Ghibli animated film PONYO on the Cliff by the Sea. We both love PONYO because the characters and the settings are so cute. The story is also lovely. Well, it's Ghibli, after all.
In addition, my mom has been requesting that I paint her some Ghibli stuff, and because of this conversation, I wanted to rewatch some of them.
In this post, I'm going to share another Ghibli fan art, and this time, it's Ponyo and Sosuke.
This scene from the movie has always been one of my favorites. I've also wanted to paint it for a long time now. I did a Ponyo landscape painting in the past, so I'm delighted to draw the characters this time.
Let me share the progress shots of my fan art below.
Since I'm making this fan art for my mom, I decided to use the usual 10 x 10 cm watercolor paper. She will add it to her collection on the wall by her desk.
I did the pencil sketch first and erased it a bit because my pencil sketches are always so messy. That's something that I still haven't improved at. haha
Using my poster paints, I colored my artwork. It was pretty challenging because of the minute details. I have some detailer brushes, but they're not really small enough. However, it was better than nothing. lol
Lastly, using a black gel pen, I did the outlining. I also wrote my username, the date I made the fan art and my signature.
I took out the masking tape around it, which created a border. Then, I gave it to my mom. It turned out cute! I really like these two characters.
My mom liked it, too. Now, it's on her wall alongside the other artwork I gave her in the past few weeks.
I'll make more Ghibli fan art in the coming days... so I hope you all look forward to seeing them.

Ohhh kawaiiii! I haven't watched Ponyo yet, but I can tell you really captured the cuteness of those two children. Also, I've seen fan art using that pose as a reference, and indeed the cuteness of that pose is contagious (except for some exceptionally funny ones hehe). Btw, it's been a long time since I've used watercolor and seeing this somehow made me think when will be the next time >_<
