No More One Piece Shop In Tokyo Tower

in The Anime Realm3 years ago (edited)

I was supposed to write about my #SummerInJapan series but somehow I can't get my brain to write the post for it.

And so, here I am sharing a post about one of my favorite anime shows.

One Piece is one of the longest running anime TV shows in Japan and is very famous worldwide. The anime first aired in October 1999 so it has really been that long already. Currently it has 1,028 episodes and it's not yet finished. The manga is still ongoing and there's even a movie that's currently showing. Actually I wanted to share this before and just remembered it today because I was browsing the cinema schedules for One Piece RED, the latest OP movie.

The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King.

One of the famous merchandise shops people especially tourist visit is the One Piece shop in the first floor of the Tokyo Tower. I mean, after you enjoy the views from the Tokyo Tower, you can buy stuff in the Mugiwara Shop before heading home. It's really convenient.

Mugiwara means “Wheat straw” or “Barley straw” in English. “Mugi” of the first character means “wheat” or “barley”, and “Wara” of the second character means “straw”. In the manga/anime series One Piece, the main character Monkey D. Luffy is called Mugiwara and they translate it to english as "Straw Hat" but that's just simple abbreviation of Mugiwara Boushi, where "Boushi" means "Hat".

But because of COVID's impact, the famous Mugiwara Shop in Tokyo Tower is now out of business. It permanently closed July 2020 but wait, I've been there last October 3, 2020! Okay, I'm confused and I don't wanna dig deeper anymore so let's just say it opened for me a last hurrah.

This was the Mugiwara Store entrance. Of course, the girls are here to welcome - Nami on the right and Robin on the left.

There weren't a lot of people when I went there, possibly because it's COVID time. There were a lot of good stuff there! I didn't have money when I came fortunately or else I would be spending a lot because I wanted to buy almost everything I found cute and beautiful.

If mugs are your thing, they have nice designs. They also have the luggage cover. I wanted to buy it for my luggage but then they would know I'm an otaku. 😅

If you love puzzles, here it is! I was looking for another design though.

Puzzles section

The popular B-Side Label stickers have a lot of cute characters I couldn't choose one. It would have been a good sticker for my luggage.

Now let's visit the figures. I'm sure most OP fans have waited for this.

My favorite girl character - Boa Hancock looks so cool in this figure but it was really expensive.

If I'm a collector, I would probably choose to collect the ships first - Going Merry and Thousand Sunny. Good thing I'm not or else bye moniesss. 😂

This was one last look at the whole store. There's still more to the other side though which I hadn't caught with my camera.

Outside the Mugiwara Store, there were games and gachapon. There was even a medallion with a One Piece print on it. The next shop was also closed and it was Sanji's Restaurant. 😢

Sanji is the cook in Straw Hats Pirate crew.

Almost everything in the store were for sale because it was their last. To be honest, I didn't understand they would be shutting down the Tokyo One Piece Tower shop when I went there. I only realized this was their closing sale when I saw the poster at the back of this Chopper statue - and I just read this now, when I'm writing this.

It says Thank You for the 5 Years

Thank you Mugiwara Store in Tokyo Tower

Thank you for the 5 years of service to us fans, Tokyo Tower's Mugiwara Shore. Hopefully when Japan is back to opening its borders fully to tourists, maybe you can open again..? Let's see.

Don't worry guys, you can still visit Mugiwara stores in other branches. In Tokyo, you can find the stores in Shibuya and Ikebukuro. In Osaka, there are 2 - the Umeda and Abeno branches. There's also one in Nagoya, one in Kumamoto and one in Fukuoka.

Being fan and addict of anime, I really need to visit one like this in the future when had the budget haha.

Figures of an anime character would be a great collection especially if they are rare or something like that.. it can be fetch a fine price to fellow collectors.😁 I might try to become one soon. then build museum char..a dream for now.

Paampon napo jan sa Japan haha.

I think you should do that. It would be an expensive hobby but it’s really nice to be a collector. In the future it would be worth a lot. I support you in your dreams! Goooo!

Cannot ampon, no space 😅

thank you for that ..kaya neer kumayod para may pangsuporta.

I do love the colours and character figures, makes it all too real and enjoyable.
I must be an Alien for not indulging in Anime🥲
I love frame 6,8,10❤️
There's so much Fun stuff in Japan, appreciate you sharing them❤️❤️#WitzAnimeLoverAlert

I must be an Alien for not indulging in Anime🥲

I was laughing when I read that you read it just now 😂

Now I know where to buy One piece merch in Japan. I had a difficult time looking for some merch here in Makati when I was looking for a gift for my friend. Punta ako Japan next time haha

If I'm a collector, I'll probably buy the mugs so I could use them when I'm having my coffee.

I was laughing when I read the you read it just now 😂

HAHAHA! I'm so sorry! I didn't really mind the text until now 😂
I was so hyped that day and the next day telling my bf about it but never knew those were its last moments..

Sure! Japan is just near, so you can just hop to the plane and poof! Shopping 😂

The mugs were really nice. I think if I bought one, it would just be a display, not for drinking. 😂

Like, I'm confused why it was operating when the shop was closed permanently. Perhaps they took their words out or something.

Oh gosh! I love animes, but one piece is not on my list. I don't know why I don't like this anime. I feel like it's too late for me to watch since it has thousand of episodes already.

I would love to visit this kind of shop if ever we have here in Cavite or somewhere in Manila. I love manga more than anime. Sad.

Please watch! It's not yet too late!
I watched from episode 1 to the latest (at that time) 2 years ago and caught up after 3 months. In those months, I only watched One Piece and I got really addicted to it!
I didn't want to join the hype of this anime but now I'm a fan!

Not sure if they have overseas shop, esp Philippines but I think they have. Would probably be full of people since many otakus are living outside Japan 😅

I cannot watch that long since my schedules are very hectic nowadays, miss. My only wish is to meet Nami's cosplayer. Just kidding! I think this upcoming December, there will be a cosplaying in MOA and it will be fun. I will attempt to attend.

Nami's cosplayer.... hmmm I sense something 😂
You should try to be a cosplayer. It's going to be a fun experience too!

Japanese shops always amazes me. Andaming ganaps as in. Lalo na cguro if I am really there in Japan. Naku mauubos ang pera ko dyan. Dito na lang ako. Haha!

There are so many things you can see and buy here. Tiis2x lang talaga not to buy and collect. 😂

There's a shop here selling all kinds of One Piece collections..I really want to buy one. But they are too expensive, lol

Yeah this kind of merch from a famous anime is really expensive especially if you are buying from the original shop. If we decide to buy, we should choose the best 😅

Uy, gacha gacha! Ang cute ng store. Sad to know that they are shutting down. :(

Yeaah it would have been so convenient to shop after Tokyo Tower viewing. It’s okay, they still have other branches.
Though I think this branch was the most popular of them all.

Not fan of One Piece witty but I like anime. May Hikyuu ba jan? Hehehe

I think there is, but not a special store like this. Usually haikyuu is together with other animes eh sa mga original stores na ganito.

i really enjoyed reading this po ate, ang eye-catching ng mga photos, it makes me wanna cry how i want to have a One Piece merch kaso wala akong pera. now i badly wanna hug Chopper right there huhu. kaya pagsisikapin kong makapunta at makatira sa japan, para kahit lakarin ko man lahat ng mga anime destinations ay ayos lang sa akin.

Hahaha! Ang cute ng lakarin lang lahat 😂

Di ko na hug si chopper though, nahiya ako e. If may kasama siguro ako, I think I would. 😂 But yesss! I hope to see you here @rene.neverfound! It would really be a happy place for you.

someday po, ill really study and work hard para makapunta riyan soon and i hope magtagal pa ako sa hive para update update lang tayo pag may time hehehehe, good morning poo ateee!

Yes! Syempre naman!
Good evening!

@wittyzell,

I'm tuning in while taking a break from working out in our 3-acres. It's 102 Fahrenheit temps here, but had to get outside away from the chaos. Plus... this property doesn't take care of itself!

That is so cute!
I'm sure your grandkids know more about anime than you. 😂

Taking breaks from time to time is great! Take care of yourself out there, that's really a super sunny weather. I went out today on a hot day and when I came back home, I immediately went to the shower because it's just so hot and humid outside.

!LOLZ

I watched a documentary on Marijuana last night…
…that’s probably how I’ll watch all documentaries from now on.

Sorry to hear that another great store has been lost to Covid. If only long-time cultural hotspots like this could be somehow protected by the government during times of severe business drought. I recently finished reading the One Piece manga and really enjoyed the story so far. It was a little tough of a read due to how long it was but the adventures reminded me of classic stories from decades past. Now to catch up on the anime to truly pay respect to this cultural icon that is One Piece. Hopefully other stores will be okay in the approaching years.

They just had to close down because there are no more tourists unlike how it was before covid. The people coming to Tokyo Tower has decreased and so, they have no choice but to really close this branch.
Other branches are still open though, and is located in crowded areas where Japanese people usually hang out so I think that's still fine.

I haven't read the manga, but I know it would be fun to read.
Hope you could catch up to the anime. It's really an adventure.
OP has references to the revolution and some parts of the world, if you notice.

Nakakalula ang daming pwedeng bilhin. Kahit un mga di mahilig sa anime mapapabili jan for sure :D

Yeah and they have sale too, so you'll surely be able to buy something.
Konti lang nakakalabas na walang bitbit 😅

Ahaha!

Wow, this is so amazing, I would want to go to a store like this, especially if its about Death Note or Naruto 😁😁
Great post! 💯👍

Oh nice choices! Not sure if they have dedicated stores like this but pretty sure, lots of Death Note and Naruto stores in an anime shop. 😅
Thank you!

Wow thanks for sharing, I love one piece .Though Iam not there ,I am enjoying the view of the whole shop.thanks again.☺️

Thanks! I hope you could visit one of the branches soon~

Dang, that's like Pokemon big!

You should see this for yourself, was really so awesome! Not this one, but other branches. 😂

Nice. It was a long time since I visited Tokyo Tower.

A lot has changed for sure, but the tower remains 😂
Please visit again!

It's really a great place! You'll be so happy looking around, and won't notice, you have already bought something 😂
