I watched Modest Heroes and wanted to give you my honest opinion. It's an anime anthology meaning a film divided into three separate stories each with its own unique character. That in itself is something I enjoyed because it feels like you're watching three short films, not one long one.
First Story: "Kanini & Kanino"
I really liked this story. It's about two siblings living underwater in a mythical world. The animation is brilliant, and the colors of the sea and nature are breathtaking but I felt the story needed more depth. The plot was a bit good and there wasn't enough time to interact with the characters. But overall, it was a visually beautiful experience.
Second Story: "Life Ain't Gonna Lose"
This story was perhaps the one that touched me the most as it's about a young boy with a deadly allergy to eggs, and his mother trying to protect him from any danger and this part was very realistic and touching, and the voice acting was solid. Honestly I felt the story was simple yet powerful, as it showed how terrifying small things can be in people's lives.
Third Story: "Invisible"
This was the strangest story in the film. It's about a person no one sees or feels, which created a sense of isolation throughout the story. The animation style was different, as if you were watching a strange dream. I think the message behind this story was profound, but its execution needed something to make it more engaging.
Modest Heroes is a beautiful experience especially if you like short films that play with emotions and different animation styles. While not all stories are equally powerful, each one has its own unique character. I think it's a film worth watching, but don't expect anything grand like a Studio Ghibli film, for example.
