Pixelart Chaos Battle Mage
Welcome to another art post here on #AlienArtHive.
Splinterlands Art Contest, Week 323. I decided to create a pixel art inspired by the creature Chaos Battle Mage because, let’s face it, is there anything cooler than a chaos mage? I don’t think so.Today I’m here to share with you a piece of #pixelart I just finished for the challenge promoted by @Splinterlands called
For those who don’t know, I’m gradually returning to the world of #digitalart and, more specifically, pixel art. Sometimes I find myself lost in basic aspects of pixel art this is only the second one I’m publishing here and I thought the result was decent enough to share.
Now, let’s talk about my version of Chaos Battle Mage.
The idea was to capture the magical and powerful vibe of the character in the smallest details. The silhouette had to be strong, with the touch of pink/purple light effects. Oh, I tried to make the colors and details as close as possible. I admit my relationship with shading is still a bit tricky. This time, I struggled a bit with the light focus as you can see. I knew where it was supposed to come from, but the pixels decided to challenge me in some spots.
Starting with the Base
I did my best to make it clear where the light hits, but I still think there’s room for improvement. After all, the pursuit of perfection is what keeps us creating, right?
Starting with a pretty rough silhouette or rather, what the heck is this shape?
Looking at the images below and comparing them to the final result, maybe I should have kept the outline; it could have highlighted the background better. I think artworks referencing this side of the image tend to look better when drawn or shaded.
Coloring and Shading
With the base complete, I started to color and add initial shading & lighting.
Another thing I decided to explore was the purple particles around the mage. I wanted them to feel like an extension of his magic, as if he had this energy flowing continuously. However, looking at it now, I think I could have added more brightness to these particles. They look cool, but they don’t quite have that glow that makes you understand what they represent.
Other than that, I’m very happy with the experience of participating in the challenge. Working with pixel art always reminds me why I enjoy it so much it’s an exercise in patience, whether it’s 3D or 2D, focusing on details, and a bit of dedication.
