A Lady, a Leaf and a Dreaming Dragon - continuing my watercolor explorations

Hello and Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates!

I want to share the creation process of a watercolor painting I finished the other day.
I love it! I'm very happy it exists now :)

I wrote about my first watercolor explorations a while back when I was visiting my hometown in Germany, and we continue the series!

Since we've closed our acorn laboratory I'm able to use that half of the dinner table as my little painting space.

The raw pencil sketch was there in my sketchbook for a while before I started painting.
Like all my drawings it came about completely intuitively. I don't know the situation anymore, but my body remembers the feeling. Hard to explain ^^ but it's there in the art.

I had to draw something right now, that happens from time to time.
I just didn't have my pencil case in the house yet, so I used a big rough carpenter pencil that I found in the house.

It was really fun to draw with it and I kept using it for other drawings.
It really makes a difference in how I draw and my mindset when I use different tools.
This one somehow gave me a lot of freedom, probably because it reminded me of my first pencils that I used as a child :) when my hands were so small in comparison to the tool.

this guy accidentally got a little beard ^^

I love the intuitive process of filling out the blank spaces with color. It's like "color by numbers" without the numbers!
I just feel what's the right color for a particular space, or I mix a color that I like and feel where the right place is for it.

I also love when the painting I'm working on is always visible for me. The dinner table sits in the middle of the room so I walk by it all the time and can just stop and put some paint when inspiration hits me :)

me drawing outlines after a shower

I thought about drawing the outlines with a felt pen at first, but then I decided to paint them with watercolor and a tiny brush.
I love the organic and natural look it gets this way.
Also it's just more fun and I get to spend even more time with the painting :)

I did think about making a frame out of cardboard and putting it up on a wall here in the house, but I'm not sure yet. It's just a temporary home for us and not ours and I just don't know yet if I'm willing to leave it here.

Although I love walking by my paintings all day, they bring me so much joy :)
We'll see.

Thanks for stopping by <3

Good one 🙌👍with that beard, now I know why his eyes are shut. He waited for you to decide, whether to leave him there and take it with you.

It's amazing to know when an artist just painted and shared their feelings through it. I like the colour you choose 😍 have a blessed day
