hello friends!
Another long hiatus from posting... what can I say... the whole of September has been a show of tragedy, one after the other. But we must return every time to our life. After all, is a chance to transvalue the materials of life for the justification of life, right?
I've had to get back to working still and so haven't had a chance to post because of that to. The work before is from a commission from back in July, finished in August.
Ophelia is a monk and martial arts master with astral powers that manifest jade arms from another dimension. This is the first DnD character of color that I ever painted, so that was cool. You don't a lot of that.
Sketches and Concepts
The theme for the piece was triumph, mastery and power. For this I focus on her atop a mountain, her being the peak of her powers, the reason I have four arms in the sketches is because I misunderstood the brief as saying she has an extra pair of arms, when in fact, the brief said the jade stones go on top of her actual arms. It wasn't a train smash because all that could be remedied in the prelim sketch from the thumbnails (see #2)
The jade stones concepts were so cool to do. I had to figure out how to draw jade in a short while. Doing this help me understand the texture of the materials so that when I go into the actual drawing I knew what to expect.
Following that, I just went to town the drawing, getting some fairly good line work going to guide the piece. After that, i blocked out the vqlue schemes, layed colours and asigned them to their places, shaded and rendered the whole thing.
