The Dance

We must be somber
Sober
Serious.
No time for dancing.
No time for the joie de vie.
Emotions mustn't run us.
Feelings must be subdued.
Life is too short
Too violent
Too dark
The world is too brutal
Too stark.
We must face our days with steely faces
And never comprise.
Eternity is coming
And always a moment too soon.

The world is going to Hell
But I am not.
'twas Grace that set me free,
Not my choice to flee
For the darkness once had me.
Decisions kill
Others bow out
It's not fair
Is the shout
Can't take the fight
Can't bear the light
Exposing flaws
Burning corpses
Into gold
A sight to behold
Coming out the other side
Twice brighter than noontide.

I will jump
And leap
And not dread the end
For the end aint the end
I won't bend
No falling creep
Into oblivion
I'll be forever
This isn't the time
For sobriety
And naval gazing.

Contemplation
Wastes the hours
Set adrift
Never blazing
As I should
And I could
If I understood
The hazing
The sift
I've been spared.
Avoiding condemnation
Again by Grace
Not tenuous
But firm
A fact
I don't live
Like the worm
In fear of the bird
But found in the word
A day sustained
I'll remain
Intact
Forever.
