Fresh air is a digital illustration that evokes the freedom and harmony of nature. I use soft and delicate colors to create a dreamy and surreal atmosphere, shades of purple and pink to highlight the body and hair of the woman. The naked woman hugs a plant as a way of escaping from reality and breathing fresh air.

I work with an Huion Kamvas 20.

Photoshop CC 2019 program.
Drawing Dimensions: 5157x5203 pixels.
STEP 1:
The first step I follow to create my drawings is to make a quick sketch, which I use to define the shape and composition of the image. Then, I create a new layer over the sketch and blur it, so that it doesn't bother me when I draw the final lines. This way, I can work in a cleaner and more orderly way, respecting the proportions and details of the sketch.
In the following image, you can see how the clean lines look like after this process.
STEP 2:
The next step I do is to apply the base color in grayscale, to define the tones and shadows of the image. As you can see, the background is not completely white, but has a light gray tone. I do this so that I can work better with the black and white colors in the following steps, as this way I can create a contrast between the background and the subject. This way, when I add the final color, the subject will not be lost with the background, but will stand out more.
To do this, I create a new layer below the sketch layer, and paint with a soft, opaque brush.
STEP 3:
Now I start to add the shadows and define some details, painting with black and white over the base color. This allows me to create more depth and realism in the image, highlighting the shapes and textures of the subject. To do this, I use a single brush, which I vary in size and pressure depending on what I need.
In this step, I work on a layer that is below the sketch layer, but above the base color layer. This way, I can see the sketch as I paint, but without it mixing with the base color.
STEP 4:
This is the last step I do with black and white, before moving on to color. In this step, I dedicate myself to give the final touches to the subject, painting with great detail and precision. To do this, I use the sketch layer, and I erase or add lines as needed. This way, I can adjust the proportions, shadows and lights of the subject, and make it look clearer and more realistic. This way, I leave it ready for the next step, which is to give it the color.
STEP 5:
In this step, I give the color to the subject, using a technique that allows me to experiment with different combinations of colors. This technique consists of creating a new layer over the black and white layer, and changing the blending mode to overlay. This way, I can paint with different colors over the subject, and see how they mix with the shades of gray. It is a very easy and fun way to color, as I can erase the color that I do not like and try new ones. I love this technique because it gives me a lot of freedom and creativity.
For this step, I choose to use different shades of purple and pink, because they seem to give a very beautiful and original aspect to the subject. The first thing I do is test the colors on a small part of the skin, to see how they look. Then, I paint with a soft and opaque brush, covering all the skin of the subject. This way, I give the base color to the subject, which I will then adjust and improve in the following steps.
STEP 6:
This is the final step of my artwork, in which I finish giving it the last touches. After having given the color to the skin, I continue painting more details over the color, to make it look more realistic and vibrant. To do this, I use a smaller and more precise brush, and I add lights and shadows wherever necessary. I also use the blur tool, to smooth some edges or areas that are too bright or dark. This way, I manage to create a more natural and harmonious effect in the whole piece, and make the woman stand out more over the background.
