Hello, artists!
Today I bring my second participation for the Leothrads adoption campaign in the artist's way, which requested a lion interacting with the Zealy and Leofinance logos. Well, without much ado, let's explain the procedure in the making of this illustration created in Adobe Illustrator.
On my work table I placed a reference image and drew the lines starting from geometric figures, specifically rectangles. The use of the direct selection tool allowed me to accommodate some vectors to convert those rectangles into other figures and create a certain symmetry in the lion's face, which would be represented in this occasion only.
Simetría de un león de campaña
Hoy traigo mi segunda participación para la campaña de adopción de Leothrads en el camino del artista, en la cual se solicitaba un león interactuando con los logos de Zealy y con los de Leofinance. Pues sin mucho preámbulo vayamos a explicar el procedimiento en la confección de esta ilustración creada en Adobe Illustrator.
En mi mesa de trabajo coloqué una imagen de referencia y dibujé las líneas partiendo de figuras geométricas, específicamente rectángulos. El empleo de la herramienta selección directa me permitió el acomodamiento de algunos vectores para convertir esos rectángulos en otras figuras y crear una cierta simetría en el rostro del león, que sería lo representado en esta ocasión solamente.
As I was drawing, I was accommodating myself to that symmetry that I observed and I wanted to keep it throughout the creative process. And I liked working with both sides equally, that's why as I progressed I was delimiting the layers well so they wouldn't get mixed and then I could modify them independently.
Even before adding color I had the layers well grouped as you can see in the following image. It was not necessary to name them because they were quite easy to locate visually, so using the page coolors.co we looked for the appropriate color palette to give a little life to this lion.
En la medida que iba dibujando me fui acomodando a esa simetría que observaba y quise mantenerla a lo largo del proceso creativo. Y me fue gustando el trabajo con ambos lados por igual, por eso en la medida que avanzaba fui delimitando bien las capas para que no se me mezclaran y poderlas luego modificar independientemente.
Ya antes de añadirle color tenía bien agrupadas dichas capas como pueden ver en la siguiente imagen. No fue necesario nombrarlas porque eran bastante fáciles de localizar visualmente, así que utilizando la página coolors.co buscamos la paleta de colores adecuada para darle un poco de vida a este león.
After trying different colors, the hair was left with that intense orange, the face with a more subdued color and the chin white, it was time to add the Zealy and Leofinance logos. For this I used the repository of Zealy's resources. When the time came, I thought I should remove some lines to make the logos visible, so, without abandoning the symmetry and clean lines, I decided to clear the right side of the face a little.
Luego de probar con diferentes colores, quedó la melena con ese naranja intenso, el rostro con un color más tenue y la barbilla blanca, fue momento de añadir los logos de Zealy y de Leofinance. Para ello me valí del repositorio de recursos de Zealy. Cuando llegó el momento, pensé que debía quitar algunas líneas para que los logos fueran visibles, por ello, sin abandonar la simetría y la limpieza de las líneas, decidí por despejar la parte derecha del rostro un poco.
See how the lion was looking after I removed the black guide lines. But I didn't want to remove the ones on the left side because somehow it gives volume to the drawing. I don't know, it's my perception, tell me what you think (remember that I'm not a professional illustrator). What was left was to add the Leofinance logo and a final detail: the eye of this lion.
I wanted to represent the road traveled by this lion during the Zealy campaign, which undoubtedly has left marks on his face that reflect the hardness of the road and the process of growth that all the lions of this community have gone through. And that's why I decided with that last detail of a scar that borders the eye, like a Viking warrior. This was the final result 👇
Vean cómo iba quedando el león luego de que eliminé las líneas guías negras. Pero no quise eliminar las de la parte izquierda porque de algún modo le da volumen al dibujo. No sé, es mi percepción, díganme ustedes qué creen (recuerden que no soy un ilustrador profesional). Ya lo que faltaba era añadir el logo de Leofinance y un detalle final: el ojo de este león.
Quise representar el camino recorrido por este león durante toda la campaña de Zealy, que sin dudas le ha dejado huellas en su rostro que reflejan la dureza del camino y del proceso de crecimiento que hemos vivido todos los leones de esa comunidad. Y por eso me decidí con ese último detalle de una cicatriz que bordea el ojo, como un guerrero vikingo. Este fue el resultado final 👇
