Hello hivers. Venezuela is a tropical country and one of the things that characterizes tropical countries is their colorful fauna, especially birds. Macaws are an indisputable part of the Venezuelan landscape and we have them in many colors and species.
No es la primera vez que pinto una guacamaya pero sí es la primera vez que lo hago con acuarela, así que los invito a que me acompañen y disfruten de este proceso creativo.
It's not the first time I have painted a macaw but it's the first time I have done it with watercolor, so I invite you to join me and enjoy this creative process.
Los materiales que utilicé fueron: cartulina reciclada de una caja, lápiz, borrador, acuarela, agua, pinceles, y un lápiz de color rosado. Empecé haciendo el boceto, me gusta usar figuras geométricas como guía para definir lo que voy a dibujar.
The materials I used were: recycled cardboard from a box, pencil, eraser, watercolor, water, brushes, and a pink pencil. I started by making the sketch, I like to use geometric figures as a guide to define what I'm going to draw.
Este es una guacamayo azul y amarillo (Ara ararauna), son aves grandes (75-86 Cms y 900-1500 gramos) y longevas, pueden vivir hasta 80 años. Comencé pintando con el verde, esta tonalidad sólo la tienen en la cabeza y en algunos reflejos de las plumas pero de manera muy sutil. Luego usé el amarillo para pintar el cuello.
This is a blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), they are large birds (75-86 cm and 900-1500 grams) and long-lived, they can live up to 80 years. I started painting with green, they only have this tone on the head and in some reflections of the feathers but in a very subtle way. Then I used the yellow to paint the neck.
Esta especie de guacamaya es azul por arriba y amarilla por debajo. Primero apliqué azul claro en la cabeza y las alas, y con un azul más oscuro marqué el contorno de algunas plumas. Así mismo, agregué más amarillo.
This species of macaw is blue above and yellow below. First I applied light blue to the head and wings, and with a darker blue I marked the outline of some feathers. Likewise, I added more yellow.
Las guacamayas tienen picos largos y muy fuertes de color negro, pinté el pico, y con un rosado muy pálido, la parte blanca del rostro.
Macaws have long and very strong black beaks, I painted the beak, and the white part of the face with a very pale pink.
Esta guacamaya tiene la cabeza volteada, es por eso que no se le ve el pecho amarillo sino la espalda, la cual es azul, apliqué un tono más oscuro que la base y uno aún más oscuro para las plumas. También usé negro para oscurecer el pico y definir la parte de abajo del rostro.
This macaw has its head turned, that's why you don't see its yellow chest but rather its back, which is blue. I applied a darker tone than the base and an even darker one for the feathers. I also used black to darken the beak and define the lower part of the face.
Pinté el fondo aplicando dos colores, primero verde oscuro, y después, marrón.
I painted the background by applying two colors, first dark green, and then brown.
Las guacamayas tienen minúsculas plumas negras en la parte blanca del rostro y sus ojos son de color blanco con el borde negro.
Macaws have tiny black feathers on the white part of their faces and their eyes are white with black rims.
Apliqué un verde y un amarillo más oscuro sobre la cabeza y el cuello respectivamente. Luego, con un lápiz de color rosado fuí marcando los surcos y arrugas que tienen las guacamayas en la parte blanca del rostro.
I applied a darker green and yellow on the head and neck respectively. Then, with a pink pencil I marked the furrows and wrinkles that macaws have on the white part of their faces.
Con un poquito de marrón y bastante blanco hice un color beige y pinté el ojo, y puse algunas sombras en los surcos con negro. Definí las plumas de la cabeza con una mezcla de azul y una pizca de negro.
With a little bit of brown and a lot of white I made a beige color and painted the eye, and put some shadows in the grooves with black. I defined the head feathers with a mix of blue and a hint of black.
Por último, usé acuarela blanca para los brillos y las marcas y cicatrices del pico. Las guacamayas no usan su pico solamente para alimentarse, también les sirve para sostenerse, trepar, defenderse, atacar, jugar y limpiarse, por lo que nunca verán un pico liso e intacto jajaja.
Lastly, I used white watercolor for the highlights and the marks and scars on the beak. Macaws do not only use their beak to feed, they also use it to support themselves, climb, defend themselves, attack, play and clean themselves, so you will never see a smooth and intact beak hahaha.
Y este es el resultado final. Una hermosa guacamaya azul y amarillo, protagonista infaltable en los cielos de Caracas, la capital venezolana, donde ya es habitual verlas visitar los balcones y ventanas de los edificios para recibir las frutas que las personas les obsequian 🍌🥭.
And this is the final result. A beautiful blue and yellow macaw, an inevitable protagonist in the skies of Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, where it's common to see them visiting the balconies and windows of buildings to receive the fruits that people give them as gifts 🍌🥭.
Bueno amigos, las guacamayas son aves muy alegres y coloridas, somos muy afortunados de que sean parte de nuestra fauna nacional y poder contemplar su belleza 💛💚💙, me encantan. He disfrutado mucho hacer esta pintura y aunque hay muchas cosas que debo mejorar en mi técnica, estoy satisfecha con el resultado final. ¿Qué opinan ustedes? Muchas gracias por su tiempo. Well friends, macaws are very happy and colorful birds, we are very lucky that they are part of our national fauna and we can contemplate their beauty 💛💚💙, I love them.
