Welcome to yet another edition of our series on pixel art!
Recently, I came to the realization that I had somehow lost track of the whole theme behind these drawings, and I initially mentioned that each pixel art piece would come with its own recurring theme... And that’s exactly how it is! I just forgot to mention it earlier. Nothing happens without a reason, and things don’t just come about on their own. That’s why I’m dedicating my time to writing this post for you :)
I invite you to read today’s musings on everything and nothing.
I won’t lie when I say that I’ve always been fascinated by horror and dark, eerie atmospheres. Some of you, who have been following my blog from the beginning, might have noticed this quite some time ago.
As a child, I was an incredibly fearful person. I was scared of most supernatural things, like ghosts, and unexplained phenomena such as aliens. My mom had a real struggle with me because I could end up crying out of fear while watching a movie with an alien in it.
I would shout at my mom to run and turn it off because of the “evil alien”! I remember it vaguely, but if I’m not mistaken, it was the movie Paul (2011). I was terrified of that alien, and it was only after my mom's reassurances and a hugging session that I managed to watch the movie with her.
Getting back to the main point of this post, I’d like to introduce you to one of my newest—and, in my opinion, most atmospheric—pieces, "Flickering Lights." When I first showed this drawing to my girlfriend, she literally jumped and said she was genuinely scared by what was in the picture. The artwork captures a great contrast between a lit street and a shadowy alley, where you never know what might be lurking...
As always, you’ll get the same format from me: a short animation in GIF form and a PNG, so you can take a closer look at the details.
I warmly invite you to comment and share your thoughts about my stories or drawings. Any form of conversation is highly encouraged :)
Finally, I’ll share with you my secret childhood weapon against nightmares and the bad spirits that hide in the corners of our rooms...
Whenever I used to wake up in the middle of the night, feeling uneasy and thinking something was in the corner of my room, I would try to follow the idea that "what doesn’t kill me makes me stronger." And so, brave 9-year-old me would stare intently into the corner, full of reproach. After a minute, I’d turn over to the other side and mutter under my breath, "Get lost, you nasty creature!" (2011, colorized). And that’s how I would go back to sleep, scared but with my honor intact because I had stood up to it. Of course, my feet couldn’t stick out from under the covers, or the evil spirit might grab them!
Thank you so much for reading and checking out my latest ramblings. If it weren’t for you, my hobby wouldn’t have the extra motivation to keep going—you’re all amazing, and don’t forget that! And as for dealing with problems in life, there are two options: you can either grit your teeth and fight or you can run away. In everyday life, running away might be more useful, but when it comes to nightmares, I’d recommend facing them head-on because it’s just your mind.
Take care, and see you in two weeks!
