The Meditation of Being | Digital Painting

in Alien Art Hive2 years ago

Hello, hello! As usual, I've been absent from Hive for a few days, but that's because sometimes I immerse myself in my ideas or calmly work on my art pieces to try to give my best in each artwork.

I've been thinking about delving deeper into surrealism, exploring art that is more interpretive and allows viewers to express their emotions through the artwork before their eyes. That's why I want to create a series of Digital Paintings for a collection I want to title "The Exploration of Being," where each illustration would have its own unique theme and visual style, but all connected through the exploration of being and the surreal experience. To create a sense of continuity among the illustrations, I will, of course, take my time, as you know that I'm not the fastest artist in the world.

For now, this artwork doesn't have a description, so it would be great to read your interpretation in the comments.

-Step 1:

The usual approach would have been to sketch a naked body, evoking fragility and vulnerability in the face of the world. However, I wanted to do the opposite, something a bit more strange. By dressing the character in an astronaut suit, it makes me think of cosmic horror and the fear of the unknown beyond our Earth's atmosphere.

-Step 2:

The atmosphere of the scene would be completely white, so I began working on the silhouette of the character. Firstly, I used the Pen tool to select the entire shape, using the sketch as a guide. Then, I started shaping the lights and shadows, avoiding the monotony of black and white. To achieve this, I went straight into adding vibrant colors to each element of the suit.

-Step 3:

Gradually, I improved the folds of the suit, trying to achieve a smooth texture. This was possible thanks to the Smudge tool, which I used after each stroke to blend and smooth the color transitions. On the other hand, I brought the character a bit closer to the camera. From the beginning, I wanted to capture their loneliness in the vast white space, but I also need to consider that many people will view this artwork on their smartphones, so some details may not be clearly visible.

-Step 4:

I didn't want the person inside the astronaut suit to be bald, so I painted a bit of beard while accentuating the expression on their face with a pair of dark circles. As for the floating faces around them, my initial idea was to make them variations of the protagonist's own face, but as I started to add details to these faces, I realized that a more rustic style suited them better, so I went for that texture closer to wood, which made them look like masks.

-Step 5:

The astronaut suits have some tubes that connect to the torso of the suit and protrude from it, and I'm not sure what they are for, but I replaced them with a kind of creature based on the description of the archangels in the Bible, where they are supposed to be golden rings with many eyes on them, and from which many wings emerge. I saw representations of these beings on Pinterest and loved the design, so I wanted to apply it to these tubes, turning them into something that connects the being with the whiteness of its environment. I also thought it was interesting to separate the arms that cover the face of the being, and add a very striking green tone, since these kinds of colors tend to be intensely imprinted on the viewer's retina, which ensures that my art is not quickly forgotten.

I will leave you a GIF with the whole process on it, so you can better appreciate the illustration process.

See you in a future post!
