Cosmic Slumber: Sleep-Themed Pen Illustration Riffing on Dreamy Hair Concept
Revisiting the flowing hair and cloud motif, a new pen sketch depicts a woman wrapped in her own wavy locks, peacefully drifting through a starry dreamscape.
Hello illustration friends,
Picking up on previous inspiration, today I wanted to revisit the concept of a subject enveloped in majestic flowing hair that takes on a life of its own. Whereas last attempt featured hair morphing into clouds, this illustration incorporates a favorite muse of mine - sleep and dreams.
It depicts a woman in sleep clothing, eyes closed in blissful rest, head on a pillow as she floats weightlessly through a cosmic plane. Her sensuous hair twists and trails, forming wavering lines that blanket her body like a muse rendered in art nouveau style. Underneath in elegant script reads the simple word "Sleep" to capture the desired concept.
I imagine her being carried along benign astral currents and eddies, losing herself in peaceful slumber despite the wonderous starfields streaming past endlessly. The hair both protects, blankets, and buoys her onward through imagined dreamscapes. As always, the wavy flowing locks act as the focal point and key visual interest.
Rendered through my usual process of pencil, pen outlining, then vector traced in Adobe Illustrator, this cosmic slumber vignette elicits feels of serenity and weightlessness I seek to capture. Digital coloring remains challenging without proper tools, but perhaps one day animating these visions will come to fruition (#seeking sponsors or commissions more woks here: https://www.behance.net/Tim_Mack ) .
Let me know your thoughts on this sleep-inspired riff. Do you enjoy envisioning figures at rest drifting through galaxies enveloped in languid waves of hair?
As always, thanks for sharing in my creative process!
