Hey there! This is my submission to the Splinterlands art contest: Flesh Golem!
Reference: https://next.splinterlands.com/card-detail/23/regular/1/?tab=lore
It's been a while since I last draw this character, as I've checked, it was last year... Hmm... It can't be that long, right? Haha... RIGHT!?
....
I guess time really flies so fast, huh? Anyway, I've tried to experiment with some art techniques I've been learning/watching lately, I'll try to explain them in the next photos:
- Recently, I now start the screenshot of my progress in the sketch page instead of my usual screenshots of the guidelines and then another screenshot for the sketch, so for this one, you can see the transparent guidelines under the sketch layer.
- Starting the line art here.
- For the muscles, I still use references in google images while drawing it. (It's important to use references, alright!? It's not cheating unless you traced it and claimed it as your own, but it's how you can be more familiar with the subject you're trying to draw).
- I am still learning how to draw the back muscles properly, that's why it looks different from the previous screenshot.
- While drawing the back muscles, I have many tabs opened in Google images with searches like, "back muscles anatomy" which gives you exactly how it sounds, literally the back muscles without the skin 😂😂, so instead I searched for muscular anime character like, "Goku back view", thankfully the results were not "that" kind of view, although it did give me a result of an image showing Recoome's back view 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
- Adding the base/flat colors here!
- Now for the experiment part, I've been watching Marc Brunet's videos for quite some time now and recently he posted a videoabout his coloring method which I tried to replicate, you can see how I did it below.
- So what he explained is shade it to "make it feel like the character has volume", by using a lasso tool or magic wand, select the part of your character and then use a soft brush to do the shading.
- To finish it, I used my main pen, G-Pen to add some thickness to my line art to emphasize the parts which I think is important 😂
I guess that's all! What do you think? Please let me know and thanks for checking my post! Until next time.
