I Am Lost Without Color | A Mixed Media Art Project

When I dwell on color, the first thing comes to mind is what type of feeling it thrusts upon me. Not all feelings come at the same time.

A few years ago, I shared each week pure fractals and other type art that met the challenge of a color for a particular day. During that time, I discovered the definition of what "color" actually means.

According to Color Psychology, "Color", as simply stated, is broken down white light. It's a dissection of light at different wavelengths. Each wavelength is perceived as a separate color. Therefore, objects tend to absorb or reflect those wavelengths, so when humans see a red apple, it is the red wavelength that is being reflected while all others are being absorbed. 1

In absorbing colors, human reactions are subjective. Some colors provide a sense of serenity and calm like those that usually lie within the blue side of the color spectrum. The colors purple and green also lie in this region, known as the cool side. The colors that fall within the cool region projects a calmness in our thoughts and attitude.

Colors that lie with the warm range of the color spectrum project the opposite effect. These bold colors, such as red tend to induce a heightened sense of emotions, such as rage, and make us feel uncomfortable, nervous or edgy. Colors that lie within the warm spectrum tend to evoke passion. Colors that lie within this spectrum includes orange and yellow. 1

But what about black and the primary color, white?

The color of "White" is the lightest hue in the color spectrum. It's associated with gaiety and purity or pure of heart. It also signifies simplicity

The color "Black's" symbolism in our lives is twofold. This color contains a different meaning for and elicit a different response from each of us. Our emotional range can run from harmony when applied to decor to discord when thinking of negative vibes. Whether productive or disturbing, black is a powerful color in our lives that influences our emotions and thoughts.

For my current project, I wanted to share a design composed from a stable diffusion image I retrieved from StarryAI and blended it with open sourced images. The result I felt was awesome displaying the various backdrop of symmetrical colors. Smaller designs of the same color are positioned horizontally. I love the window effect with a single blue color surrounding the panes.

The female in the foreground provided the perfect neutral brown coloring to offset the background palette. Finally, I added a multi-colored parrot to the female's forehead thus bringing the color scheme into the foreground.

I then utilized Canva to blend the different type images. which begnn with a blank, white canvas. I then add layers of elements in accordance with my upgraded Annual Pro Membership that includes tools to remove backgrounds, resize, filter, duplicate, and reposition items as required.
