A girl named Midori 少女椿 - Traditional drawing

in Alien Art Hive3 years ago (edited)
I love Japanese animations, especially the ones that are a bit weird or special. A few years ago I discovered a 1992 movie that I had never heard of, and this illustration is based on the main character, named Midori.

Midori: The Camellia Girl or Shōujo Tsubaki (少女椿) or Shoujo Tsubaki (少女椿) is a popular tale from Japan, which has also been adapted into film and manga. I think so far I´ve seen and read everything about it, although the story may be really upsetling for many people. But if you like dark or "experimental" stories I'm sure this will be an interesting discovery. If you’re sensitive, please don’t watch it.

The character is a sweet girl with an unfortunate life, who lives in a decadent age, and is kidnapped by the evil members of a circus. From then on, she must deal with all kinds of bad things and is constantly forced to lose her innocence and the hope of living a happy life, making her existence a real hell.

I won´t tell the whole thing, but I think the analogies that this story shows are very strong, for that reason it´s difficult to forget once you know it. It inspired me to do this drawing in 2019, and the truth is that this is one of my favorites of that year, despite its simplicity. I wanted to reflect her inonence, delicacy and sadness surrounded by a violent environment.

Hope you like it!

I made a few digital edits, but the drawing was done with pencil, ink, and crayons.

I've not seen that film @kitzune but might look it up, the drawing is really adorable, I like it both in black and white and with colour, well done.

Hi @donnadavisart ! Cool, you can look up for the animated film, but there’s also a live action film and a short manga that was the inspiration for the anime. Have in mind that it’s a very dark story, but I hope you find it interesting :) And thank you so much!! I’m really glad you like it ♥️♥️

P.S. The artistic work of the manga author (Suehiro Maruo) and the story about how the film was banned I Japan is also interesting, in case you wanna know about that too!😀
