'Pray For Japan' Artwork

I created this artwork in remembrance of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. This tragedy occurred on March 11, fourteen years ago. Fourteen years… yet it still feels like it happened only a few years ago.

Each year, I create a simple artwork for this memorial day, usually incorporating the red circle of the Japanese flag with a straightforward message. This time, I chose to include lotus flowers in the background. The gentle hands in the image carefully cradle the land of Japan, while a soft, embracing lotus flower wraps around them. I also included Okinawa at the bottom, though it may be a bit difficult to notice.

The land of Japan represents the rising sun, but I didn’t want the sun to appear overly powerful, so I made the circle slightly imperfect.

The artwork is a blend of AI, digital techniques, drawing, and collage.

The earthquake didn’t just devastate the land. It caused countless hardships, including the ongoing consequences of the nuclear power plant disaster. Many issues remain unresolved. However, the resilience of the people is remarkable, even though the emotional wounds continue to affect many.

I wanted the colors of the lotus flowers and hands to be similar, so the flowers also resemble hands. The lotus symbolizes holiness, rest, salvation, calmness, and innocence, among other meanings.

Through this artwork, I send my prayers to all.

「日本に祈りを」アート作品

このアートは２０１１年に起こった東北地方太平洋沖地震の日のために作ったものです。１４年前に起きた地震と津波の大被害。あれから１４年も経ったのですね…。いまだに数年前のできごとのように思い出します。

これまではこの日のためにもっとシンプルなデザインのアートを作っていました。日本を象徴する赤い丸にメッセージを添えただけのものです。今回は背景に蓮の花をもってきました。優しい感じがする両手が優しく日本を抱えています。さらに、その両手を後ろから蓮の花がそっと包み込むようなイメージです。本土の下の方には沖縄の島も入っているのですが、ちょっと見えにくいかもしれません。

日の丸は日本の象徴であり力強いイメージがするものだと思いますが、このアートの中の日の丸は優しいイメージにしたかったので、丸の形が完璧な丸ではありません。

AIと、デジタル加工アートと、絵をコラージュしたスタイルです。

地震は単に日本の土地にダメージを与えただけではありません。あらゆる困難や被害を与え、さらに原発にもダメージを与えました。未解決のままのさまざまな問題がいまだにあります。心にたくさんの傷を抱えながらも、人々の回復力は素晴らしいものがあります。

蓮の花の色は、両手と似たような色合いにしたかったので、花が手に、手が花にも見えます。蓮の花の花言葉は「神聖、休養、沈着、清らかな心、救ってください」等の意味があるそうです。

このアートを通じて祈りを捧げたいと思います。
