Hello everyone! How are you doing today? I hope your doing well, as ways!
So, Today I drew Momone again, it's been a good while since I last drew her huh? Well, in case your wondering why she is wearing something different from my original drawing, it's because this is her school uniform. This drawing took a pretty long time to complete due to the background being hand-drawn. It took a lot of time trying to figure out where Momone was standing, at what distance, and angle the background should be from her. Lucky for me though I already decided what colors I wanted to use, so I didn't have to brainstorm that.
Anyway, this picture took insporation from the story "Imprisoned Marionette" from Project Sekai, Nightcord at 25:00. If you're wondering what happened in the story, this is the summarization by Sega
"To fulfill her promise to Mafuyu, Kanade wants to learn more about her. Meanwhile, the group visits a doll exhibit, where Mafuyu has a strange experience."

Here are the cards / drawings which inspired me!
โ Mizuki Akiyama "A Moment of Jest"
โ Kanade Yoisaki "Lifelike"
โ Mafuyu Asahina "Captive Masquerade"
The image(s) shown above were like something I was able to look up to while drawing, a general idea of what I wanted to do. Including helping me with the color scheme, composition and location of Momone! The Artworks made by this game have been a huge inspiration for me, and my drawings!

โ Progress of the Artwork โ
โ sketch, as you can see, I decided to start of the sketch, I'll start doing that from now on, since it helps me a ton to get a vision for the finished drawing and when drawing the background too.
โ I polished up the background to be more interesting and busy, since most cards in Project Sekai are very alive, I wanted to replicate that.
โ Lineart, as always, I did a very skinny and thin lineart to make the following colors and shades pop, and also to get the mood of the scene across. Sometimes you may see me making the character have a thick outline, which is a technique usedโin most timesโto portray comedic , or lighthearted scenes.
โ I started coloring with her skin, shading it, and giving her a small blush, I also immediatley colored her eyes, since they give the character life.
โ I colored her hair, as you can see, she's wearing a small ponytail, I like to think she does that at school to keep her hair out of her face.
โ final clothes coloring, shading clothes isn't always my strongsuit, but again, looking at insporation such as Project Sekai artworks is a good way to learn from professional artists.
โ I put a yellow and orange mutiply layer over the overall figure of Momone, as of now I think the shading is a little too extreme, so I may tone it down a bit
โ Here's the start of the longest part of this picture. The background. I started with the shelf infront of Momone, since I'll end up needing to copy and paste the background into the camera of her phone for consistency!
โ if you pay close attention, you can see I decided to copy and paste the dolls over and over again, since I didnt want to end up drawing 80 individual dolls, all with unique hair and clothes. I also ended up blurring the dolls the more they approached the background to put the eyes attention on Momone.
โ Added shelves, at this point I was considering leaving out drawing dolls into these shelves, but I told myself to not be lazy, to give life to this background, and dres marionettes into them.
โ from what I have seen, Project Sekai cards don't really mind making a consistent writing structure into this world. Ive seen some english text in some cards, and made up script in others.
โ protection glass infront of the dolls, since museums often do that to keep them from dusting, or visitors touching them, it is also a good excuse for me to practice drawing glass and reflections.
โ far background, I edited the far background more, adding the yellow lamps that are to be seen in the background of both Kanade and Mafuyu's cards. I also drew the big porcelain doll that I had in my sketch.
โ Blurred the background in order to make Momone the focus of attention of this artwork, and the eye. I also added more sparkles to the glasses and the background to make it cute and pretty.
What do you think? Did I do good?
I'd be happy to hear from you in the comments, do you think I am improving my background work? Are you happy to see Momone return?
As always I appreciate any kind of interactions and any support!
-Yours truly
