Today, I want to share with you my latest fan art: a Simpsons-style illustration of Dustin Henderson from Stranger Things—but, of course, with my own artistic touch.
Creating this piece was both fun and challenging. Dustin is such a charismatic character, known for his humor, intelligence, and unmistakable charm. I wanted to capture his essence while integrating that exaggerated cartoonish look that The Simpsons is famous for, but without losing the personality that makes Dustin so special.
His curly brown hair, signature cap with a retro print, and the iconic graphic T-shirt were essential details to include. I made sure to highlight his expressive face, wide eyes, and slightly open mouth, giving him that quirky, animated feel while keeping the skin tone more realistic rather than the classic yellow of The Simpsons. The result? A fusion of two worlds that brings a fresh perspective to this fan-favorite character.

Crear esta pieza fue tanto divertido como desafiante. Dustin es un personaje carismático, conocido por su humor, inteligencia y encanto inconfundible. Quería capturar su esencia mientras integraba ese aspecto exagerado y caricaturesco que caracteriza a Los Simpsons, pero sin perder la personalidad que hace que Dustin sea tan especial.
Su cabello rizado y castaño, su icónica gorra con un estampado retro y su clásica camiseta gráfica eran detalles esenciales que debía incluir. Me aseguré de resaltar su expresión vivaz, sus grandes ojos y su boca ligeramente abierta, dándole ese aire animado y peculiar. Sin embargo, mantuve el tono de piel más realista en lugar del amarillo característico de Los Simpsons. ¿El resultado? Una fusión de dos mundos que ofrece una perspectiva fresca de este personaje tan querido.

With his love for science, Dungeons & Dragons, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends, he has earned a special place in the hearts of fans. His signature look includes a trucker hat, curly hair, and a bright personality that makes him unforgettable.

Con su amor por la ciencia, Dungeons & Dragons y su lealtad inquebrantable hacia sus amigos, se ha ganado un lugar especial en el corazón de los fans. Su apariencia distintiva incluye una gorra tipo trucker, cabello rizado y una personalidad brillante que lo hace inolvidable.
Process / Proceso
The journey began with a rough sketch, where I focused on defining Dustin’s facial features, hair volume, and overall posture. Since I was blending The Simpsons style with my own, I exaggerated certain elements like his eyes and mouth while keeping his facial proportions balanced.
Once satisfied with the sketch, I moved on to the linework, refining the details and making the contours smoother. I aimed for bold yet clean lines, ensuring that the character maintained a lively and dynamic feel. The curly strands of hair were a particularly fun challenge, as I wanted to keep them loose and natural.
Next came the coloring stage, where I decided to keep his skin tone more natural instead of the usual Simpsons yellow. I carefully selected the colors for his outfit: a beige T-shirt with a fun graphic, a classic green and yellow cap, and his purple backpack straps. Each element was chosen to remain faithful to his look in the show while fitting the animated aesthetic.
Adding shadows helped bring the illustration to life. I applied soft shading to his face, especially around the eyes, nose, and mouth, to add depth. The shadows in his hair enhanced the curls, making them look more dynamic.
To enhance the lighting, I worked on the highlights. A soft glow on his skin and subtle light reflections on the cap and shirt added a polished touch. This step helped emphasize the texture of his clothes and gave a sense of volume.
Finally, I created the background, opting for a blurred interior scene that suggests a cozy, familiar setting. The warm tones and out-of-focus elements keep the attention on Dustin while subtly enhancing the overall atmosphere of the piece.
El proceso comenzó con un boceto, donde me enfoqué en definir los rasgos faciales de Dustin, el volumen de su cabello y su postura general. Como estaba fusionando el estilo de Los Simpsons con el mío, exageré ciertos elementos como los ojos y la boca, pero mantuve un equilibrio en las proporciones faciales.
Una vez satisfecha con el boceto, pasé al delineado, refinando los detalles y suavizando los contornos. Busqué líneas audaces pero limpias, asegurándome de que el personaje mantuviera una sensación dinámica y enérgica. Los rizos del cabello fueron un desafío divertido, ya que quería que se vieran sueltos y naturales.
A continuación, en la etapa de coloración, decidí mantener su tono de piel más realista en lugar del amarillo clásico de Los Simpsons. Elegí cuidadosamente los colores de su atuendo: una camiseta beige con un gráfico divertido, su icónica gorra verde y amarilla, y las correas de su mochila en tonos púrpura. Cada elemento fue seleccionado para ser fiel a su apariencia en la serie y al mismo tiempo adaptarse a la estética animada.
Agregar sombras fue clave para dar vida a la ilustración. Apliqué sombreado suave en su rostro, especialmente alrededor de los ojos, nariz y boca, para añadir profundidad. En su cabello, las sombras realzaron los rizos, dándoles un aspecto más dinámico.
Para mejorar la iluminación, trabajé en los brillos. Un resplandor suave en su piel y reflejos sutiles en la gorra y la camiseta añadieron un toque pulido. Este paso ayudó a enfatizar la textura de la ropa y aportó volumen.
Finalmente, creé el fondo, optando por una escena interior desenfocada que sugiere un entorno acogedor y familiar. Los tonos cálidos y los elementos borrosos mantienen la atención en Dustin mientras realzan sutilmente la atmósfera general de la obra.

Bringing this piece to life was a fantastic experience. Mixing different artistic influences while keeping true to the character’s spirit allowed me to explore new techniques and refine my style.
