As an artist, I always enjoy the challenge of reimagining characters in my own style. Today, I want to share a special fan art of Kang Mi-Na, Player 196 in Squid Game 2, capturing her final moments before elimination. To make this piece unique, I combined elements of The Simpsons' exaggerated cartoon style with my own artistic approach. Creating this artwork was both exciting and emotional; I wanted to emphasize her shocked expression while keeping the humorous yet tragic essence of the scene.
Como artista, siempre disfruto el desafío de reinterpretar personajes a mi estilo. Hoy quiero compartir un fan art especial de Kang Mi-Na, Jugadora 196 en El Juego del Calamar 2, capturando sus últimos segundos antes de ser eliminada. Para hacer esta pieza única, combiné elementos del estilo caricaturesco exagerado de Los Simpsons con mi propia técnica. Crear esta ilustración fue emocionante y a la vez conmovedor; quería resaltar su expresión de sorpresa mientras mantenía la esencia humorística pero trágica de la escena.
Kang Mi-Na is a character from Squid Game 2, known for her distinctive appearance and the intense emotions she displays throughout the game. Her role, though brief, left a lasting impression due to her expressive and dramatic reactions. This made her the perfect subject for an artistic reinterpretation, allowing me to highlight both the comedic and tragic aspects of her fate.
Kang Mi-Na es un personaje de El Juego del Calamar 2, conocida por su apariencia distintiva y las intensas emociones que muestra a lo largo del juego. Su papel, aunque breve, dejó una huella duradera debido a sus reacciones expresivas y dramáticas. Esto la convirtió en el sujeto perfecto para una reinterpretación artística, permitiéndome resaltar tanto los aspectos cómicos como trágicos de su destino.
Process / Proceso
Everything began with the sketch, where I focused on capturing Mi-Na's exaggerated shocked expression. Her wide eyes, slightly asymmetrical mouth, and raised eyebrows were crucial in conveying her disbelief. The composition was structured to maintain the chaotic energy of the moment.
Todo comenzó con el boceto, donde me enfoqué en capturar la expresión exagerada de sorpresa de Mi-Na. Sus ojos bien abiertos, la boca ligeramente asimétrica y las cejas levantadas eran esenciales para transmitir su incredulidad. La composición se estructuró para mantener la energía caótica del momento.
The inking stage defined and enhanced the character's features. I refined the exaggerated lines, making sure her facial details stood out. The bold, dynamic lines added a The Simpsons-inspired touch, while keeping the essence of my personal style.
La etapa de delineado definió y realzó los rasgos del personaje. Refiné las líneas exageradas, asegurándome de que los detalles faciales destacaran. Los trazos audaces y dinámicos añadieron un toque inspirado en Los Simpsons, sin perder la esencia de mi estilo personal.
For the coloring, I opted for a semi-realistic skin tone instead of the usual yellow from The Simpsons. This choice grounded the character in a more dramatic atmosphere while preserving the cartoonish exaggeration. The shading on her skin, especially around the mouth and forehead, emphasized her distressed look.
Para el color, opté por un tono de piel semirrealista en lugar del amarillo característico de Los Simpsons. Esta elección ayudó a situar al personaje en una atmósfera más dramática sin perder la exageración caricaturesca. Las sombras en su piel, especialmente alrededor de la boca y la frente, acentuaron su expresión de angustia.
Adding shadows deepened the intensity of the scene. I used soft gradients and sharp contrasts to make her expression more striking. The lighting was carefully placed to highlight her exaggerated features while maintaining the energy of the moment.
Añadir sombras intensificó la escena. Usé degradados suaves y contrastes marcados para hacer que su expresión fuera más impactante. La iluminación se ubicó estratégicamente para resaltar sus rasgos exagerados sin perder la dinámica del momento.
Highlights were the final touch, giving her hair and clothing a polished look. I added small light reflections to her eyes and lips to enhance the depth of her expression, making her look even more animated.
Los brillos fueron el toque final, dando un acabado más pulido a su cabello y ropa. Añadí pequeños reflejos de luz en sus ojos y labios para acentuar la profundidad de su expresión, haciéndola parecer aún más animada.
For the background, I chose a slightly blurred outdoor setting, inspired by the game’s visual environment. This soft-focus effect keeps the attention on Mi-Na while still maintaining context.
Para el fondo, elegí un escenario exterior ligeramente desenfocado, inspirado en la estética visual del juego. Este efecto de suavidad mantiene la atención en Mi-Na sin perder el contexto.

Creating this piece was a thrilling experience. Mixing The Simpsons' cartoonish elements with my personal touch allowed me to explore exaggerated expressions in a way that balanced humor and drama. I hope you enjoy this interpretation of Kang Mi-Na as much as I enjoyed bringing her to life!
