Making game assets for unusual worlds

Being a game developer is hard work, especially without funds. Yet, that is the reality for many, if not most, indie game developers. As someone who has worked as an artist and Art Director for many years at different game studios, their struggle is not akin to mine.

Game developers come from all sorts of specialties and backgrounds. Some are artists like myself; others are just really passionate about storytelling or world-building, and the rare kind: They just love to program a game above everything else.

Notably, and I ought to say - unsurprisingly, game devs are often an amalgamation of all three. They do what they can to get their idea out of their heart and truly deserve our praise for that sole aspiration alone. They've got stories to tell, and as a real admirer of that kind of people, I decided to help beginner devs in some way.

Sprites

Digital painters and pixel artists are bundled in a group of professional artists who can greatly aid people in pushing their dream game forward. That is achieved by commercial trading of sprites—an industry term for a digital video game asset. While helping freely can honor one's heart, artists are also trying to pursue their dreams, and they need sustenance! 😆 A single dedicated game asset can be cheap, while a game needs thousands, and the final invoice can build up tremendously.

A good way we can help is by fostering novice developers to push their games beyond the initial activation energy barrier that they need to cross to start some cash flow. Ultimately, when their game is stable enough, it would be easier for them to purchase more custom assets from you, be it for an expansion of their first title or perhaps a second (potential blockbuster) game.

How could we achieve that then?

One great way to do it is through Sprite packs

Galiant's Variety Sprite Pack - Everything you need to kickstart your very own fantasy game.

Sprite packs are just bundles of individual sprites that can solve a common problem for game developers regarding visual content:

  • Damn it, my hero is naked! He needs weapons and some protective gear! - I got you 😊
  • Wouldn't it be cool to have spell scrolls to cast magic? - Yes, sir! 😊
  • Man, I wish we had different potions or elixirs for healing/buffing my hero! - Bottles up, mate! 😊
  • My hero is not only killing monsters, but he is also gathering resources like runes, crystals, ingots, and something to craft items with! - Say no more! 😊

In a single bundle, we can offer devs the ability to greatly push their envelope and be more creative with the world they are building.

WE HELP THEIR IDEA COME TRUE

And that is the real value! Often, packs like these (with 132 unique sprites) can go as low as $30 depending on license terms, but I believe that with HIVE support, we can make them available entirely for free (as the labor involved could be entirely covered by your like! 😊)

I am excited to try this experiment. And I hope that with your support, we can bring more people in while providing them with extra tools to achieve their dream of bringing their game to life!

Good call!!

It's the truth! xD

This is incredible! Reminds me a medieval mod pack from minecraft. The details are awesome!

Hi @valmer94, thanks! Yeah! Modders definitely would benefit from packs like these, too! They are game developers, after all ;)
