This idea has been in the deepest recesses of my mind for about... 5 years maybe? It is one of those drawings that are thought but not carried out.
Well, this was the moment to carry it out, to capture it on canvas, which measures 15,2cmX9,5cm by the way…
As I am a fan of fairies and a lover of flora, it didn't take long for this idea to come to me, sadly it did take me a while to realize it, but let's get rid of the unnecessary tears because its luminous birth has finally arrived.
The sketch was made in haste and without much care, it was left lying among papers for a few months until I found it and planned its realization.
As a curious, historical and cultural fact, I must mention that the orchid is the national flower of Venezuela, more specifically the orchid Cattleya Mossiae, and obtained this title on May 23, 1951.
🌺 The Process 🌺
Adapting the sketch had been somewhat complicated, since after drawing several I was not at all convinced, originally I had planned to do it from the front, or at a 3/4 angle and with her eyes open, but I declined the idea...
When drawing her, I couldn't find a suitable position for her legs, at least to make them look as I wanted, because when they were crossed they gave a ridiculous sensation and deprived the fairy of any delicacy.
I decided not to make her legs from the thigh down.
Seeing that the body from the front with her face in profile was the best option, I turned it over to clean and began to outline.
It was beginning to take shape and to show a certain grace, not necessarily that of a princess, but that of a woman of high lineage.
With the outline finished, it was time to select the colors.
The cattleya mossiae has a pinkish to lilac color but I opted for a purple color, more striking and more to my taste.
After I was done with the purple in terms of base color and shadows, I started to add depth with blue, shading with pink and brightening with yellow and light blue. That mix of colors looked fresh, vibrant and radiant.
I also detailed part of the inside of the skirt with yellow and orange as the royal flower and part of the sleeves.
With the hair I didn't have to think too much and just used the same range of colors as with the dress but leaving it in a slightly paler tone.
The skin was something totally different, as I didn't know which way to go, I didn't want to shade it with pink and purple as I usually did as they would make the fairy look too monochromatic, I had previously shaded the skin with light blue but implemented other colors like purple and grey to make it more adaptable and look more natural.
I didn't want that to happen here, the outrageous light blue over the cream color of the skin was what I was going for, something bold and new that would catch the eye.
I ended up with some blushing on her cheek, nose, ear and fingers. Now the leaves were next.
The leaves were shaded with blue and illuminated with yellow, I used three shades of green and with it I made lines so that these had texture, these lines I then deepened them using blue pen, the pen is always a good complement for me when I want to do something much more marked than the usual color.
After coloring the small vines behind the leaves that served as secondary wings with aquamarine and turquoise, I continued with the small orchids and the background. Of course, remembering to take a break as these small things require my best pulse.
Once the new flowers were ready I thought about what color to use for the background, my first choice was terracotta, but boy, I couldn't find terracotta anywhere so I used yellow because, in short, I like yellow.
It's also a color that brings out cool tones very well.
In the lower corners I added green and in the upper part some brown, after some pointillism with water based markers, and some details in the outline I had my work finished.

Esta idea rondaba por los más profundos recovecos de mi mente desde hace alrededor de… 5 años quizás? Es de aquellos dibujos que se piensan más no se llevan a cabo.
Pues este fue su momento de llevarla a cabo, de plasmarla en el lienzo, que mide 15,2cmX9,5cm por cierto…
Como soy fan de las hadas y un amante de la flora, no tarde mucho en que esta idea llegará a mi, tristemente sí tarde en realizarla, pero retirémonos las innecesarias lágrimas pues su luminoso nacimiento llegó por fin.
El boceto fue realizado con prisa y sin mucho esmero, fue dejado tirado entre papeles unos cuantos meses hasta encontrarlo y planificar su realización.
Como dato curioso, histórico y cultural, debo mencionar que la orquídea es la flor nacional de Venezuela, más específicamente la orquídea Cattleya Mossiae, y obtuvo este título el 23 de mayo de 1951.
🌺 El Proceso 🌺
Adaptar el bosquejo había sido algo complicado, ya que tras dibujar varios no me sentía nada convencido, originalmente planeaba hacerla de frente, o en un ángulo de 3/4 y con los ojos abiertos, pero decliné ante la idea…
Al trazarla, no hallaba una posición adecuada para su piernas, al menos haciéndolas lucir como yo quería, pues estas al estar cruzadas daban una sensación de ridículo y despojaban toda delicadeza al hada.
Tome la decisión de no hacerle piernas del muslo para abajo.
Al ver que el cuerpo de frente con su rostro de perfil era la mejor opción, lo pasé a limpio y comencé a delinear.
Comenzaba a tomar forma y a manifestar cierta gracia, no necesariamente como la de una princesa, pero si como la de una mujer de alto linaje.
Con el delineado terminado, tocaba seleccionar los colores.
La cattleya mossiae tiene un color rosáceo llegando a lila pero opté mejor por un color morado, más llamativo y más a mi gusto.
Tras haber terminado con el morado en cuanto a color base y sombras, comencé a darle profundidad con color azul, matizar con rosa e iluminar con amarillo y celeste. Esa mezcla de colores lucía fresca, vibrante y radiante.
También detallé parte del interior de la falda con amarillo y naranja como la flor real y parte de las mangas.
Con el cabello no tuve que pensar demasiado y solo utilice la misma gama de colores que con el vestido pero dejándolo en un tono poco más pálido.
La piel si fue algo totalmente diferente, ya que no sabía qué camino elegir, no quería sombrearla con rosa y morado como hacía generalmente ya que harían que el hada se viera muy monocromática, anteriormente había sombreado la piel con celeste pero implementando otros colores como el morado y el gris para que se adaptará más y se notase más natural.
No quise que eso pasara aquí, el escandaloso color celeste sobre el color crema de la piel era lo que buscaba, algo atrevido y nuevo que captara la atención del ojo.
Terminé con algo de sonrojo en su mejilla, nariz, oreja y dedos. Ahora seguían las hojas.
Las hojas fueron sombreadas con azul e iluminadas con amarillo, usé tres tonos de verde y con él hice líneas para que estas tuvieran textura, estas líneas después las profundicé usando bolígrafo azul, el bolígrafo siempre me es un buen complemento cuando quiero hacer algo mucho más marcado que el color habitual.
Luego de colorear las pequeñas lianas tras las hojas que fungían como alas secundarias con color aguamarina y turquesa, proseguí con las pequeñas orquídeas y el fondo. Claro, recordando tomar un descanso pues estas cosas tan pequeñas requieren de mi mejor pulso.
Una vez listas las nuevas flores pensé en que color usar para el fondo, mi primera opción fue el terracota, pero vaya, no encontré el color terracota por ningún lado así que use amarillo porque, en resumen, me gusta el amarillo.
También es un color que resalta muy bien los tonos fríos.
En las esquinas inferiores agregué verde y en la parte superior algo de café, tras un poco de puntillismo con marcadores a base de agua, y algunos detalles en el delineado tuve mi obra terminada.
