One day, as usual, while browsing through my social networks I came across an interesting post showing different species of moths, some very colorful, with colorful patterns on their wings and that I could use as a reference for future projects.
Although there was one that caught my attention.
The striking moth could even provoke fear; more so to my relatives who are very skeptical, however there was something that made me want to draw it as it had provoked a pareidolia in me. Perhaps that very thing had caused terror to the others.
It's not like she was going to eat them or turn into a witch as soon as we turned around.
I left the image safely tucked away.
Days later, my sister came home with some striking blue flowers that I now know are called clitoria ternatea, their strong coloration gave me a good feeling, even more I doubted, purple/blue flowers many times tend to give a very grayish tone.
However this time it was not the case and more than happy, I started sketching to use the juice I had just extracted.
Supposedly tea is also made with these flowers but since I am not a fan of tea forget it, I might make it one day just for idleness, but I wouldn't die to try it.
🌒 The Process 🌔
The illustration was made on a 15,2cmX9,5cm cardboard, I would have liked to have opted for a larger format, but it was just something experimental that I didn't even know if I would like it in the end. The watercolor was not a large amount anyway.
After having traced the margins I began to draw the figure, trying to make it as similar as possible to what I had in my mind; artist's dilemma, I hated it, I didn't like it, I tried to change it, the size and shape of his eyes, his lips, the position of his hands, with the passing of the minutes I got something more or less adequate.
Am I the only one who drowns in a glass of water like this?
I outlined the contour and proceeded to paint, the cardboard seemed to make the watercolor application uneven, but this cardboard was not for watercolor so I couldn't ask for much.
I use a lot of recycled cardboard, using the side not covered with prints, old drawings, stains or similar. It's still good for the environment, isn't it?

Once the sky was covered, I outlined part of the inside of the figure, and as the blue detail dried with black pen.
One of her wings and a corner of the margins were stained in an oversight, so I covered both wings with white paint, I left the stain in the corner of the margin as I had liked it, like an old letter that gets dirty from a trip over the inkwell.
Her mantle or wings reminded me of the figure of virgins in paintings, so I included the halo later.
The posture of his hands also reminded me of the meanings that they have in the paintings of religious character, according to say the open palm symbolizes sincerity and used to be related to the people who spoke with the saints. Although in my drawing the hand is inverted, so we can suppose it would be all the opposite.
Her other hand posture has no meaning or at least none that I know of.
Over her head is a moon, an idea coming from the image of the virgin of Guadalupe, only that unlike her, the moon is over her head and not under her feet.
Details made with gold, gray and black, and after some clouds in the sky made with paint, I finished this piece of which I have fallen in love.
I can't tell if she is a divine being, mythological, extraterrestrial or from another dimension, I just know I wouldn't mess with her....

Un día como siempre, paseándome entre mis redes sociales me encontré con un interesante post donde se mostraban distintas especies de polillas, unas muy coloridas, con patrones vistosos en sus alas y que podría usar de referencia para futuros proyectos.
Aunque hubo una que captó mi atención.
La llamativa polilla podía provocar incluso miedo; más a mis familiares que son muy escépticos, sin embargo había algo que me hacía querer dibujarla al haberme provocado una pareidolia. Quizás eso mismo le había causado terror a los demás.
No es como si se los fuera a comer o que se convirtiera en bruja apenas nos diéramos la vuelta.
Dejé la imagen bien guardada.
Días después, mi hermana vino a casa con unas llamativas flores azules que ahora se que se que se llaman clitoria ternatea, su fuerte coloración me dio un buen presentimiento, más aún dudaba, las flores moradas/azules muchas veces tienden a dar un tono muy grisáceo.
Sin embargo esta vez no fue el caso y más que alegre, comencé a bocetear para usar el zumo que acababa de extraer.
Supuestamente también se hace té con estas flores pero como yo no soy fanático del té olvídenlo, podría hacerlo un día solo por ociosidad, más no me moriría por probarlo.
🌒 El Proceso 🌔
La ilustración fue realizada en una cartulina de 15,2cmX9,5cm,me hubiera gustado haber optado por un formato mas grande, pero era solo algo experimental que ni sabía si me gustaría al final. De igual forma el zumo no era una gran cantidad.
Tras haber trazado los márgenes comencé a dibujar la figura, intentando quedara lo más similar a lo que tenía en mi mente; dilema de artista, lo odié, no me gustaba, intenté cambiarlo, el tamaño y forma de sus ojos, sus labios, la posición de sus manos, con el pasar de los minutos conseguí algo más o menos adecuado.
¿Seré yo el único que se ahoga en vaso de agua de esta forma?
Delineé el contorno y prosegui a pintar, la cartulina parecía lograr que la aplicación de la acuarela no fuera uniforme, pero esta cartulina no era para acuarela así que no podía pedir mucho.
Acostumbro mucho usar cartulinas recicladas, usar el lado no cubierto de impresiones, dibujos viejos, manchas o similares. Igual es bueno para el medio ambiente ¿No?
Claro, no vinieron a leer acerca de tips para minimizar en un 0,000000000000000002% tu huella de carbono.
Una vez el cielo fue cubierto, delineé parte de lo interno en la figura, y al secarse el azul detalle con bolígrafo negro.
Una de sus alas y una esquina de los márgenes se mancharon en un descuido, por lo que cubrí ambas alas con pintura blanca, dejé la mancha de la esquina del margen ya que me había gustado, como una carta antigua que se ensucia por un tropiezo con el tintero.
Su manto o alas me hicieron recordar la figura de las vírgenes en los cuadros, por lo que incluí la aureola posteriormente.
La postura de sus manos también me recordó a los significados que poseen las mismas en las pinturas de carácter religioso, según dicen la palma abierta simboliza sinceridad y solía relacionarse con las personas que hablaban con los santos. Aunque en mi dibujo la mano está invertida, por lo que podemos suponer sería todo lo opuesto.
Su otra postura de mano no tiene ningún significado o al menos ninguno que yo conozca.
Sobre su cabeza está una luna, idea proveniente de la imagen de la virgen de Guadalupe, solo que al contrario de ella, la luna está sobre su cabeza y no debajo de sus pies.
Detalles hechos con color dorado, gris y negro, y tras unas nubes en el cielo realizadas con pintura, terminé esta pieza de la cual he quedado enamorado.
No puedo decir si es un ser divino, mitológico, extraterrestre o de otra dimensión, solo se que yo no me metería con ella...

Esa ilustración me encanta porque te quedó muy fantasmagórica y la polilla esa ni se diga XD... Desde hace un tiempo que también dibujo en formatos pequeños me he fijado que me gustan mas así porque parecen cartas de oráculos, además de que tienes la gran ventaja de terminarlos mas rápido 🔥 Por cierto, supongo que sabrás sobre la leyenda del hombre polilla???
