Hello! I’m not sure if my acrylic paintings will totally fit in with Alien Art Hive but figured it was worth posting and, if not a fit for this community, perhaps someone could advise on where future paintings would better fit in. This is my first time posting any of my art, so far I’ve limited my Ecency posts to my workouts, which seemed to be the easiest way for me to get somewhat familiar with the process of posting.
I enjoy painting various genres. Sometimes holiday themed. Sometimes just cute animals/creatures. Sometimes scenic. Sometimes homages to famous painters whose work I love, such as this piece I painted that was inspired by Paul Cezanne’s Les Trois Crânes. I attached a picture I took of my painting and a scanned image of it at the beginning of this post. The original image of Paul Cezanne’s painting can be searched for online. I removed an image from here that I’d previously posted without properly citing.
I want to learn digital art, and was looking into adobe illustrator as a starting point as well. Is anyone familiar with adobe or other options?
Up for feedback/comments and also if you paint, please feel free to share!
Welcome to the greater Hive art community. Some other places you could post to are #onchainart and #sketchbook.
I don't use Adobe. My program of choice is Clip Studio Paint. There's no yearly subscription, it's a 1x $50 price tag for the "lite" Pro version and even that has more tools and features than I know what to do with. They also have 50% off sales constantly. I think a lot of people use it primarily for comic or manga art, but I've used it to do oil paintings and charcoal drawings. Look into it.
Also, I've heard good things about a free program called Krita, but I've never used it.
Thanks for the feedback, I will look into those options before making a final decision. I like the “one time purchase” idea though, rather than a monthly sub.
@sidekickmatt I just looked around on the Clip Studio Paint site and watched a YouTube video on an illustrator’s use. I also looked at Krita. My daughter has created some really interesting adventures for her toys during our playtime, and I’ve compiled many of the stories into a document, and am now thinking it might be fun to illustrate them and see if they lend themselves to a book. I saw there was a free trial with Clip Studio Paint, so will likely look into doing that and playing around with Krita before making a decision. Thank you again for those ideas.
Acrylic paintings definitely fit into this community. Digital and handmade art are both accepted. It's more of the content that would be questionable at times... but skulls always work here. I think you did a nice recreation of that artwork. Sidekickmatt gave some of the other best art communities you can also share your art in.
If you are going to share another post of this art, make sure not to double post but rather do the Cross-Post option featured on PeakD.com? Check out the latest post i just made with some tips for new users here on the platform. Keep up the great work and cheers bro!
Thanks for the feedback and advice. I took a look at your most recent post and you gave some great examples that I can learn from. Even in this post, how I did not cite the image that I copied from a Google search to plug in for everyone to reference what the original image looked like, for example, so that is definitely a learning experience. My paintings do range in genre and style, so I’ll be cognizant on what communities I post in based on what the painting is as well. And thanks for the welcome! It’s been an enjoyable experience starting out so far. A lot to learn though, but thankfully there are supportive people in here that are willing to provide guidance. 🤝 have a good evening!
