"Low-key Low-ku" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

I promised, last night, that I would write TWO Low-ku poems tonight to atone for slinking off to bed early... Here is the first:

Haul ass hillbilly
That hot moonshine ain't gonna
Distill its damn self!

(That was a biographical piece from my dad's stories of life in the backwoods of Virginia!)

Now let's move on to the visual portion of tonight's show.... Wait... I suppose you had to SEE that poem to read it, so it was rather visual, as well.... Shit! Definitions are breaking down! Entropy and chaos reign! And here's a drawing that sort of speaks to that...

[Crayon, Sharpie, and colored pencil on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and color.]

I love making little pictures like that... (It was drawn on a piece of cut-up cardboard from a box of fruit snacks! Feel free to read into that whatever you'd like!)

In other super cool news, a fellow artist from NFT Showroom, @ftrsaroth, gave me an awesome NFT as a gift today. It's an "Unofficial Punk" that combines the original Cryptopunks' pixel-art style with my NFT Showroom icon (that creepy bear face) to create THIS masterpiece!

I seriously love it!!! Fantastic colors and great pixel interpretation of my scratchy drawing style!!! (And NO! I won't even consider selling. Maybe whoever ends up with my art collection after I die will sell it to you, but not me... It's a keeper!)

Final Low-ku of the night! (If you hate poetry, you're excused and can leave the table...)

Hee gee go poo pah
Mah law loo foo hingy chooch
Eeemah nongo leee!

Deep. Like Hugo Ball or Kurt Schwitters! (Am I right?)

Okay...you've stayed your hour. You're still in the will! Now go upon the land and spread the good word of the SALVATION to be found in poetry and Web3!!!

That was an...interesting show. I liked the cardboard art. There's a lot going on there and lots of room for interpretation.

What is a low-ku? I hadn't heard that term before. I liked "hillbilly" and felt that it did a great job of capturing Southern manner of speech.

A "Low-ku" is a low-brow haiku. It follows the form of haiku (5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables), but the content is nonsense or intentionally non-poetic.

And my dad really was a hillbilly from Virginia, so I grew up listening to how his side of the family spoke. They were hilarious people. (Sadly, only a couple folks who moved from Virginia to the Pacific Northwest are still with us, but I try to keep them alive in my head and my stories!)

Thanks for the comment!

Cool. I can get down with some low-ku.

My family is southern from a West VA heritage, so I know all about the way they talk as well. They are truly hilarious with the things they say and how they say it. Thanks for the follow.

What a cool gift, and you certainly deserve it. By now my family probably owes you a free NFT ;). So you got some moonshiner DNA in ya', I am a Kentuckianan, where the coal mines, tobacco fields, and moonshiners meet popcorn farmers, Amish, and bluegrass music ,on the Indianan-Kentucky border. !wine
