Though I also remember being squicked out by that particular type of pattern when I was younger (I have no idea why or why I'm not anymore) and desperately had to poke it to break it.
That second view kind of makes it look like a shuttlecock.
Some interesting framing you have going on there as well, is the idea like a museum room where it's projected on a wall or more like you're walking through some tunnel in a very large space vessel or planet or something and you encouter the nexus were interesting things are happening?
