Small Talk

Swords.PNG
I saw this really good image in Splinterlands as I wait for my next battle. So, I had a thought. Would it be good to use these swords with a new unique character?

Senju.jpg

I needed a guide, someone with multiple hands. At first, I thought of Senju of the Thousands Hands from Yugioh. I found about this goddess from India that has 10 hands and thought it would be a good base. I chose 6 hands instead of 10 because I don't want to make it a 1:1 with this goddess.

I also want to make something demon-like as I have a vision of making this new character as a death unit. I think it would fit really good.

Lore

Once, Vyrdura was revered as a radiant goddess, protector of balance and harmony across the Splinterlands. Her six hands wielded sacred blades, each representing each element of existence: fire, water, earth, life, death and dragons. Worshipped by mortals and immortals alike, she stood as an unshakable guardian against chaos and imbalance.

Vyrdura's fate changed when a higher being, afraid of her growing power, stripped away her immortality. By forcing her through the rift, she began to develop her earthly ties to Praetoria, Vyrdura's divinity got contaminated and the purity of her spirit twisted into insatiable wrath. No longer bound by the ideals she once upheld, she descended into madness. Her face starts to develop more eyes than needed and her noble blades started turning black and dark hungering for blood instead of justice.

Now more known as the Vandal Swords, she roams the Splinterlands as a corrupted demon, a dark echo of her former self. Her once glorious name was soon forgotten and now, as the Vandal Sword, strikes fear into those who knows her. Whispers speak of a day she may reclaim her divinity, but for now, she reigns as a merciless force of ruin and only destruction waits on whoever dares to cross her path.

Drawing Process

Guide and Lineart

1 Lineart.gif
The guide is quite different from the line art because I only uses the guides for the form and doesn't include things like clothes and other things. I also did not include the swords first because I want to focus on it later.

While doing the lineart, specifically the face, I wanted to experiment on using mirror tools.

mirror tools.PNG
These Mirror Tools can be a scary feature when used improperly. In this drawing, I decided to try them out because heads and face details are usually symmetrical unless you're working with angles. If there's no angles, it should be symmetrical.

So, I'm playing around until I made this amalgamation The neck up is made with Horizontal Mirror Tool and it's creepy, amazing, distracting and disturbing all at the same time and I love it!

Adding Base Colors

2 Add Base Color.gif
The Base Colors are very simple. I wanted colors that would stand out but not look out of place so I focused on the reds and its shades. Since I don't want her to look human as the Vandal Sword is intended to be a demon, I looked at other animes that has demi-humans and remembered Badigadi from Mushoku Tensei and based her around that.

The yellow colors are because I want those accessories to be golds and yellow is the closest to mimic them.

Adding Shadows

3 Add Shadows.gif
For the shadows, I used the same idea as before using the color shade panels on Krita. If you want to know more, visit my other drawings and I always mention it there.

Using the panels, in my opinion, is much better than learning what color combinations work for shades and highlights but basics is still important.

Swords

For the swords, like I said in the beginning, this is based on that one art that inspired me while waiting for my games in Splinterlands.

I added them on the Vandal Sword's hands and colored it. The tricky part here is that I need to show some of the handle inside the hand because it's not always covered so I basically did two sets of the handle area, one under the hand and one in front then the one in front, I removed parts of the fingers to make it look better.

It's more time consuming but it's more accurate to do this.

Background

5 Add Background.gif
Since I spent too much time for the swords and the face and I can't think of any good background for her, I used the Rebellion background for Life and Death which fits her idea.

The Vandal Sword was once a goddess of Splinterlands and once her mortality was removed by a higher power, she became corrupted and became a demon. This is why she has both Life and Death elements.
