Bringing a Dragon to Life: A Step-by-Step Drawing Process
This time, my inspiration came from something unexpected—My Little Pony. While watching the show with my children, I found myself drawn to the way creatures are designed. The inspiration came from Rarity and Spike. Rarity has the aesthetic and spike has the personality, I thought a combination of the too would be an adorable character.
This is a look into my process, from the first sketch to the final colored version to the ai image inspired from it.
The Sketch
I usually start with simple shapes. I mapped out the basic structure with loose circles and lines to create the body, wings, and tail. This initial stage is all about placement, making sure everything flows well.
With the foundation in place, I refined the wings, giving them a more defined shape while keeping them soft and slightly curved. The tail followed.
Adding Character and Detail
I focused on the face, giving it large eyes and messy hair.
Next came the texture. Small details, such as the ridges running down the tail and decorative scales along the body. My dragon is starting to come together.
Bringing in Color
Color changes everything.I started layering with the light colors first. The shading was done gradually, layering colors to create depth while keeping the tones soft and blended.
The End By Hand
Now for the AI imags inspired from my drawing. As I have done before, I submitted my art to an AI image generator and picked the best ones it gave me. I do enjoy seeing what my designs can be, beyond my own hands.
I am still learning and working my way to the digital side so that one day I won't need Ai to see my art really come to life. This is just one step in that journey, and I look forward to bringing more ideas to life in different ways.
