As it is so often in life you plan to do something, but then you get side tracked, stumble upon someone or something, get some new ideas and start doing something totally different from what you actually wanted.
And that's exactly what happened.
But the grind never stops, and that's why I am back here, finally, sharing my newest bee for my HIVE Bees series over on NFT Showroom.

#09 Technician Bee
But let's talk about the Technician Bee now. Technicians have some very important tasks to take care of.
Due to turbulent weather conditions and other outside attacks to the HIVE it is not unimportant to have someone repairing the damage. That's where the Technicians come in. They often use the resins collected by the forager Bees to repair the cracks in the Hive. The Technician Bees also have to make sure to take care of a proper cooling system on hot days, as well as warming the Queen when its freezing outside.
SKETCH
As I always do, when I want to create some new art, I start with doing some research. I feel that research and finding good references are such a vital part to get to a good result in the end. So I scanned the internet for some good references and started scribbling on my drawing tablet.
I had something very specific in mind for this one. Again I tried to give it a very distinctive look, but still keep some of the characteristics from the previous Bees in the series.
OUTLINES
After I was satisfied with my sketch, once again, I moved on to create some clean outlines and clean the whole thing up. That's when we start to see the direction in which we are going with this one.
FLAT COLORS
With the Outlines done I start adding the flat colours to the character. For this Bee I had 2 things in mind. I definitely wanted to reuse some of the colours I used for the previous characters. But somehow I got inspired by Super Mario, because he is such an iconic character. So I wanted to bring his colour palette in as well, which resulted in a very vibrant combination as you can see below.
But I think it works. Or what do you guys think? Let me know down below.
FINAL VERSION OF THE TECHNICIAN BEE
After I had my colours done, all that was left to do was bring this whole thing together. Add some shading, highlights, also add some texture to various materials and of course add a Background.

For the Technician Bee I wanted to make her look like a craftswoman. That's why I gave her all the tools and this outfit. And because Super Mario is arguably the worlds most famous plumber, I got heavily inspired by him as well. I guess when you look at him and this Bee, side by side, you will see what I am talking about. But of course it was also very important to make her look part of the whole series, and I hope I succeeded.
