Good nite /morning! Kinda late, huh? But it's all good—finally getting to write a little before heading to bed!
This drawing took me quite a while compared to other portraits, like seriously, way longer. But I’m really happy with how it turned out!
This portrait was for a contest on X 🎊🟠 2nd Annual Orange Me Contest 🎊🟠 so yep, it’s an NFT and it’s available on Exchange.Art
So, I’ve been experimenting with Corel forever, and I still am ‘cause this is a style I really wanna get better at. I love the whole painted-on-canvas look. Yeah, I know, lol, maybe it’s not super obvious, but if you look closely, you’ll kinda see what I mean.
I’ll drop some pics here, but you can check out the video too

On one layer, I did the initial sketch—my idea was to go from darkness to light, hahaha. It was just a base for everything else, with loose brushstrokes. I kept messing around with different brushes until I found one I liked.
Started from the darkness, taking the first steps. Slowly, I added details, and yeah, maybe it looked kinda random and directionless, but that’s exactly how I wanted to work. I just need to refine this approach. At this point, you could start making out some facial features.
With the base done, it was time to refine it—adding lighter tones and detailing a few things. Smoothing everything out would come later. As you’ll see in the video, I worked on a single layer but kept duplicating it to save each step while continuing on the same one.
And here comes the moment! LOL. Time to smooth out those strokes, fix imperfections, and of course, work on the hands, hair, and everything else. But my main focus was the face.
I kept tweaking the colors and adjusting a few things, especially refining the face—that was my main goal. I love this part, but getting it right isn’t quick. It takes time. I was really liking how it was turning out. It kinda reminded me of Rembrandt—I love his portraits. But yeah, there were still a few details left to fix.

To finish up, I kept working on the eyes. I wasn’t happy with them for a long time, so I kept changing them until they finally felt right. The contest theme was orange, so I had to incorporate that into the final details. I was inspired by a butterfly that’s really special to me—I love all of them, but this one has a unique meaning. I also added some flowers with orange tones to complement it.
Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.
