Good Day ,
I hope you all had a nice weekend so far , today i wanted to show a bit more then just the end results of my macro photography .
Since most people have no idea about the magnification in macro photography,
i've tried to make some examples today .
Phaenicia sericata / Common green bottle fly / Groene vleesvlieg
This image of the fly is not cropped it just fills your screen with the ultra macro lens :)
The downside of the ultra macro is getting all in focus isn't exactly easy lot's of trail and error. Yes people kill insects for the perfect picture or put them in the refrigerator so they can do photostacking, but that is not my game i only work with life subjects unless it's killed by a spider .
to show some failures :
Sharp on the eye yes but the rest of the body not so
and here more of the body in focus but not the eye
and for those that wonder I don't work with a tripod when I do macro photography like this. I do use flash light with a difusser .
fly cropped with a normal Macro lens
Harmonia axyridis / Asian lady beetle eating aphids ( non-cropped)
Slightly cropped
Max cropped
More food for the ladybugs not cropped
tiny rose bud with some aphid skeletons on them looks like a ladybug has been feasting here.
another lady bug hunting for aphids
Brachypterolus pulicarius / antirrhinum beetle / Leeuwenbekkevertje , i find the all over the snapdragons they arre very small +/- 3mm in length .
Cropped version
and a frontal view also cropped
and another habitant of the snapdragons is this shieldbug
slightly cropped image
al these are found in my own 6 by 6 meters garden , if you have any questions about my photography feel free to ask in the comments .
Enjoy your Sunday !

These are superb! I just don't get the amazing bugs you do! Not that I could take good shots of them, but, I would like to thing I could give it a try.
Hi, Mick!
Awesome!~ Awesome~!
Thank you Denise , my control of the light is getting better and better and it shows in the results .
The bugs are mostly hiding during the day they come out arround sunset when the heat is gone.
I think I should plant more flowers in my small garden so that it can attract more insects.
But man. . . your photo results are always awesome.

thank you it's just a lot of practice and ok the gear does help , but without the practice the gear wouldn't be able to help .
Thank you for your support , much appreciated
The diversity works , it's also a great way to find out what will survive in my garden and what not , and the diversity also gives you flowers all year around .
Excellent work, I think I need to get one of those lenses next, currently using a sigma 105mm f2.8 lens.
Thank you , it's a challenge to work with all manual focus , but once you get the hang of it you can make very interesting macros .
Lights are also very important to get right
Thanks for the info on this lens, I think I need one now lol
ha ha that's how it goes , i'm still considering the Laowa 15 mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro to be my next purchase
Garden is good thing .. it give as good food, also there is so lot small life what you can photography lot times :) Sad I have here last weeks been very cold and it not let all bugs to come out 100% all time .
YOu hold your camera what hands? ... or you also use camera legs ? :)
i don't grow much food in the garden only herbs like parsley , mint, lavender , rosemary .
Yes indeed i hold the camera with my hands no tripod, it gives me more flexability to move around.
Put more things in garden ... you be more happy when you get food also from there :))
our garden isn't that big , and i would have to fight the snails and slugs now i have hedgehogs eating the snails and slugs, still hoping to catch the hedgehog on camera .
OR try get bigger land .. I am sure you can fix this ;)
BUt cool photos .... I be soon more back to see what you find .
Oh, the fly! That's awesome.
