Some time ago I decided to play around with my camera and lightbox, a super-cheap thing my partner bought me a little while ago that has provided me many hours of enjoyment - sometimes it's the little things. Anyway, today the camera stayed in the bag and I decided to go through a bunch of photos I have on my computer which was enjoyable...until I decided to see what certain images might look like in black and white and then...it became way more enjoyable!
Below are a few photos of a bottle of Bvlgari BLV which I changed to black and white as I thought they might look ok and I believe they actually do...the same but different - isn't it interesting how the brain shifts based on the lack of, or addition of, colour?
Below are the originals in colour laid out in a collage to save space...there's nothing worse than having to scroll through loads of pictures in my opinion. Personally, I like the blue ones but in the black and white ones there's less to deceive the eye, less to distract the mind, and one can focus on the lines and shapes of the bottle, the bubble of fluid in the case of the image directly above, and the reflections, the light and shade, in the chrome cap and bottle top.

Anyway, that's it for now...Just a few photos with the colour taken out of them. I'm no photographer, I keep beating that drum for good reason, I just don't have enough interest in it to work at getting good at it, but I enjoy taking photos and taking the colour out of these images allowed me to extend that enjoyment a little further and in a different direction. I don't use editing tools like Photoshop on my photos, I don't know how and have no inclination, but taking the colour out of some photos today was fun.

Every image in this post is my own.
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III was used to capture these images.
I love that blue.
I kind of just love blue in general
It does look pretty classy in black and white too though.
And I suppose I better apologise because I do occasionally have posts that require scrolling through a lot of pictures XD
Yeah, it's an engaging blue isn't it. I guess the company do all sorts of market research to ensure they have the colours right. Fair enough too I suppose considering the money that's involved.
The B&W is so much better imo. Despite what you say, they almost look like professional advertising shots!
Thanks mate, I just commented to Boomy in this post that I think the black and white ones are better. Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it.
Haha that is cool! So many people bitch about the bad things that technology and megacorp online ordering does but there are benefits too for those who are creative. Accessible technology available to hobbyists and inexpensive commodities to help your hobby turn out pro looking results!
I was enjoying the contrast and perspective of the B&W shots and reading your comments then I flipped down to the colour shots. They both stand on their own for sure.
I think what struck me is how the blue is so vibrant, it makes the other subtle hues look monomad. So damn good for tinkering around!
Not related but here is a silly iPhone shot from a Carole Pope concert I was invited to attend this week.
Keep shooting shots and tinkering!
I like to play around with the camera now and then and have gained some reasonable (for me) results. The idea of it is all about fun though, being creative and that's what I find.
The black and white's in this post appeal to me more than the colour although I like the colour ones also. I actually have a good idea (hopefully good) for some black and white shots I want to take but finding the time is the difficult part. I'll get it done.
Stained glass windows...I like them and how they play with the light.
Some of those programs are just way too complex for me!
I used Photoshop many years ago in a very basic way and feel the same. I didn't enjoy it though and prefer my photos to come straight out of the camera complete with their imperfections...which is exactly what life is - imperfect.
Amazing photos in my useless opinion. I agree with meesterboom and think the B&W bring out the best for these shots.
Breaking out my crappy camera again to give it another go.
Thank you, and I agree about the black and white...it's just so much more appealing for some reason. I'm photographically challenged though, so what do I know. 🤔
I'll be back to upvote your comment later when my VP recharges a little.
No prob, I’m not one of those that expects upvotes. I just like the dialogue
I know but I like to reward those who take the time to engage; I enjoy the engagement aspect of it also and like to encourage it with a little upvote.
I love lightbox time too, there's something relaxing about it. I'm always amazed with how focused I get and how time flies by around me when I'm taking photos in the lightbox.
It's the same for me, the time just seems to fly, but it's cool when one gets to see what's been created on the computer screen. Of course, for non-photographer types like me it's often frustrating but my fingers are pretty good at twiddling so so I twiddle a little bit and coax that camera into a climax of photography averageness.

Did Bvlgari hires you ? They should
B/W gives the photo an air of sobriety and mysticism, and yes it's just a perfume, the blue also looks spectacular, but in b/w it looks much better.
You're pretty good at just pressing a button 😅 . Good pics , Mate
Thanks mate, no job offers from Bvlgari yet, but I'm still hopeful. Lol.
It's interesting how the colored ones look a bit comical after looking at the majesty of the black and white. I like the color blue, but B/W in photos just has a different effect.
I agree, on their own they look good, but they lose something when one compared against the black and whites for sure.
It's amazing how something changes just by removing the colour, it's wonderful! Sometimes I like them more in colour and sometimes in black and white... is it the mood? I don't know but I like to see the difference and although you are not a photographer you love photography, and you do it very well....
Photoshop takes work and learning how to use everything is difficult, it took me years, and a good pulse! It's like painting with a mause hahahaha
Great pictures!!!
I'll never learn how to use Photoshop, I prefer the shots I take to come straight off the camera, snippets of real life rather than a fabricated, perfected version. Life isn't perfect, photos shouldn't be either.
That's a very real thought, that's life.
Damn! Those are some good photos that are fit for a commercial.
Thanks, they look ok for sure, better in black and white I think.
Definitely better in black and white
Here I thought it was a cryptocurrency image new to the market 😅.
But it turns out it's a colony
Nice pictures by the way 🧐
Thanks!
I love the way that black and white strips out the colour into silver, whites and shadows. It's always captivated me
It's incredible how it transforms a photo right? I added the originals in to compare and I'm leaning towards liking the B&W ones better.
The b&w ones are much better. Just adds that magic and pizazz!
I saw the word pizzaz and read it as pizza's. Now I want a fucken pizza.
I just had an awesome gluten free pizza and cake for lunch. It was fucking magic!! Totally stuffed now 😀😀
You're not helping with my pizza cravings here you know. 🫣
Heh heh, mmmm sweet pizza!! 😀😀
Your exploration of black and white photography adds a captivating dimension to these Bvlgari BLV bottle images. The absence of color allows us to appreciate the intricate details, shapes, and textures. It's amazing how altering something as fundamental as color can transform our perception. Keep enjoying your creative endeavors! 📸🖤
✅
I prefer it in colour. That blue really pops.
It's a nice blue for sure.
